I'm running mine at 4.6 as well for daily use.

Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using Tapatalk
I've been thinking of trying to OC mine. My mobo has a preset already for 4.6, but I dont know if I should use that.

sze5003, I would give it a go with the preset. I decided to use a manual vcore setting of 1.32 so that 4.6 was solid running Asus RealBench and Intel Xtreme utility both for 30 minutes.
I have the ram set in the XMP mode for 3200 at 1.35v

I'll try it one day. Been running stock since I got it a couple months ago. This mobo has a lot of OC options with most of them already set up as just a selection away. Just not sure how stable the presets are.

I did watch a review of the same mobo on YouTube and they tried the presets with testing and found it easy and stable.

Wheeeee! It's happening!
I said earlier in cases & cooling I didn't mind working in the small confines of the M1....I meant it, that is until I started working with compression fittings within the small confines of the M1. I can't get a good grip on them and unfortunately I'm the type of person who likes to crank 'em till they bleed, they are wearing me out. Overlook the wiring it's all been pushed toward the front and out of the way of the area I'm working on ATM, I'm not sure there is anyway I can end up making it actually look neat though once everything is in here, going to be tight no matter how you slice it.

Looks sweet.

Mind if I ask what parts you used for the water loop?

It actually looks a bit different now, I had to try all sorts of orientations and tubing runs just to get the radiator bracket to fit down correctly, and that even required some compression in the end. I think hardline tubing would actually work really well for this case if you were good with it.

  • FrozenQ M1 reservoir
  • Swiftech Apogee Drive II pump/block
  • XSPC Blade RX480 block
  • Hardware Labs GTS240 radiator (red)
  • Cryorig QF120 Balance fans
  • Primochill 3/8x5/8 tubing - which I really don't like, I find it's not very flexible and tough to make some seemingly easy bends with. I knew this beforehand, but that was with the 1/2x3/4 stuff, I was hoping this size would do just as well as the Swiftech tubing of the same size, which was a joy to work with on my 3930K set-up. Swiftech doesn't have red though.

YBS1, you are TRULY a dedicated custom water cooler. Do you build for others?

No, I just like playing with new toys. I'd love to run wild with someone else footing the bill though. I may end up switching this one over to hardline, it would be so much cleaner that way, so much room wasted on tubing necessary to make gentle enough bends in this build. Someone could really make something like this awesome with hardline and custom cable lengths, if I was going to that extreme though I'd have bought the pricier EK block for aesthetics. Truth be told I didn't even clean up the wiring mess yet, once I was able to get the tubing fit I just wanted to slap it back together and try it out.

AIB prices are lame this generation. Here in Canada it's even worse as AIB 480s are approaching $400-420 CAD+ tax.
http://m.ncix.com/products/sku/133971/

Not trying to excuse the $290 price for XFX, but at least this cooler may be among the best from the entire RX 480 line, with 5 year warranty on the swappable fans and direct contact with VRMs. They basically took a variation of the 390X 300W cooler and strapped it on a 480! It also has custom low noise inductors.

OTOH the competitor charges $50, $70 and $100 (you know on what cards) for basically looks, but that premium still buys you a mediocre cooler and PCB/VRM quality which isn't even on RX 480 level on their $700 card...just saying it could be MUCH worse.

I do agree that at these prices, for gaming might as well spend a bit more for a 980Ti/1070. Regardless, as long as RX 480 continues to make $$$ mining, demand will be there. I just ordered more cards again. It makes it a no brainer to replace most Hawaii cards with 2x RX 480 and a 1000W PSU can handle 6. Normally, very few gamers would go from a 290/290X/390/390X to the 480 but with mining it actually makes sense. Rumoured terrible yields at GloFo mean we might hit 2-months paper launch on the 480 soon. Ha!

I agree that if you're buying the RX 480 for gaming it's a hard sell at the moment. Right now the 1060 AIB's are a bit rare, but if you can snag one for $250+/- you'll get a faster card with less heat.

The 1070 is sitting in a good spot at $430 (AIB) for higher-end gamers looking for an upgrade without the dual GPU aftertaste. I have 2 RX 480s because I wanted strong performance to take advantage of freeSync (have a hard time paying 20%+ more just for G-Sync on the same monitor), but after running into issues with freesync I'm second guessing the $/perf of CF 480s. When they scale, it's outstanding. When they don't scale, I'm sitting there feeling like a knob for wasting $230 on a 2nd card. To see how green the grass on the other side is, I "rented" a GTX 1070 from Fry's over the weekend to try out the performance. I'll be honest that I was tempted to put my rx 480's up for sale and go straight NV. The performance I got across all games while hitting 70c max temps with no screaming fans was delightful.

If I can't resolve my FreeSync issues, I may be putting my 480's up for sale and going green.

Depends what resolution. At 1080p I think the 1070 is too much. At 1440p I feel that's where the 1070 does very well. It can pretty much play anything comfortably at that resolution. I'm surprised of how quiet it is even while gaming. I hear the hyper 212 the most.

Good point. If you're gaming at 1080p a 1060/RX 480 should be plenty in most cases. I'm currently running a ultrawide 2560x1080, so the 1070/CF 480s are a bit more reasonable.

Any more info on this? I did a quick google, but didn't see anything more than a few speculative posts in Reddit.

I don't think we can still call the RX 480 a paper launch as it is today. They are not hard to get anymore, you know this better than many, as you own several. Just because something is selling out, doesn't mean its not selling well. Hell every new iPhone is sold out for months. I have a Nitro+ being delivered today, and I didn't even really try that hard to get one.

But I do agree on some of these AIB prices. And i think its because there is no high end option. The AIB's don't like the idea of trying to survive off tiny profit margins of mid range chips. Thing is, they will sell, even at those prices. I paid $235 for my 4GB RX480 Nitro+, which I think is an ok price.

What issues are you having with Freesync?

There were some issues I had with Freesync but I knew them going in - like no windowed full screen
stuttering if below minimum Freesync range

I already have another thread on it over in the AMD section. You can chime in there, if you like.

Just got my new Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ 4GB in and installed. First thing I noticed is the fans are typically OFF when just surfing the web. Which is cool, even when they do kick on I really cannot hear them when they are on low. And I have the case side off, and the case is RIGHT next to my display. So its very noticeable if I can hear it. But note I have not gamed for a prolonged time to see how hot/loud it can get.

Oh, and the DVI port is not a dual link DVI, which is a bummer. Means I need to buy a display port cable, until then I am stuck at 60Hz

Here are some quick wattage comparisons taken at the wall with a Kill-a-watt with zero tweaking, out of the box.

Sapphire HD7950 900MHz:
Stock Idle: 70W
1100MHz Idle: 72W
Stock Youtube: 80W
Witcher 3 Stock: 220W
Witcher 3 1100MHz: 300W

RX480 Nitro+ 4GB 1306MHz
Idle: 90W
Witcher 3: 265W (old lower settings used with 7950)
Witcher 3: 290W (Max settings)
YouTube: 140W

Power Efficiency ON:
Idle: 90W
Witcher 3: 237W (Max settings)
YouTube: 128W

Yea I like the fact that these new cards have the fans off and don't even get too hot when they are not in use. I can honesty say I haven't even heard my card when I'm pushing it in games.

Dang you guskline, you and SketchMaster got me talking about cooling and now all I've thought about the past two days is how much better this case would work with hardline. Have it all sitting in my cart at Perf-PC, debating...

Going to play with under volting it, see what it will do. But with it in power efficiency mode, it uses quite a bit less than at default.
