Who bought/is buying a Radeon RX 480?

Do you think the 480 will be quiet under load in my padded r4 case once the overvoltage thing is reduced? I'm hoping for slightly lower temps.

It's already quiet. Even on stock overvoltage. If you lower vcore, you get an even quieter or cooler card.

They can simply do a -25mV at stages 5-7 on their boost clocks, to be safe that it works for all cards. Mine and many others can handle -100mV but obviously that could well be the best result, who knows. To have a margin, they can stick with -25mV, at which point it should no longer exceed 150W.

It's not silent. You have to go passive setup for silence.

Will the next driver update fix this voltage issue? I imagine the aib models may come already tweaked with this?

Yeah they said a new driver would probably be out tomorrow (5th) to fix the issue. I'm guessing its just going to be defaulting to lower voltages. Their "auto" adjusting is probably just picking the wrong value due to a typo / faulty logic.

I'm getting some DirectX errors with my old 6850 on WIN10 playing PvZGW2. Will getting the latest (RX480) taking advantage of the latest drivers likely fix this issue? Sorry I don't have the specific error, but I'm hoping this is the reason they ongoing-ly release new drivers while the 6850 no longer gets updates.

Or maybe it's too new and errors are still to be expected anyway?

Most likely since 6850 is on VLIW4 uarch, and AMD has stopped supporting those already in new titles.

And I am sure it runs hot and noisy as hell It's going in the centre of my living room and will be used to watch films, I don't want the thing sounding like a jet engine. The 270 is bad enough.

The 390 will likely be EOL soon, also the next gen consoles will be based on Polaris GPU & GCN4. So not only will the 480 save you more power than the 390, albeit not as much as many of us expected, it'll also age better. The 480 will be the 7970 of this gen, the 4GB RX 480 will probably be the best perf/$ card on 14nm barring outliers like holiday sales.

i still have 2 x 7970ghz (they were the top of the line)

amd 480 has nothing af 7970ghz, it s a gpu born cheap (not enough) and going to become cheaper in 1 month.

it s just the last error from amd sadly, self-concurrence and some dreams

I don't think it will get any cheaper. Most likely the 1060 will be priced somewhat higher.

Just checked and while newegg is all out my micro center has 10+ visiontek models and 1 xfe model in stock. I wish the custom models were out already.

That is how I plan to use my 480, in a small Mini ITX HTPC. I get it on Friday I can't wait, if it's too loud I will return it but given reviews I think it will be fine.

Just lower Clocks and set fan to manual. If you only going to use it for Video playback why dont you wait for RX 470 or even the cheaper 460 ??

if it is just to watch films, why would you need a gpu? any amd apu or intel iris should be able to handle it

The RX480 always performs worse than a 390?

Don't get me wrong, I love my 390s. But to say that the 480 always performs worse is a big stretch.

I hope the aftermarkets won't be that much more expensive. I don't need a SUPER clocked card with 8gb of ram. Just wish I could get a regular $200 one with the double fan approach that is likely quieter than the blower under load. My 7770 has a fan but I can't hear it under load in my Fractal R4 case. That's how I want its replacement to be.

Depending on which model I think they will range from $270-$300 for the 8gb model. 4gb should be about $230-$250 but from what I've seen I don't know if we will see the 4gb aib models. Most announcements have been all 8gb and I bet it will be hell trying to get one on day one.

Just got my RX480. It's quite a bit better than the HD 7750 it replaced.

With the DP2 of macOS Sierra, the RX 480 starts to get support. No 3D acceleration yet, but DP/HDMI output work! Fiji support is also there ... maybe I'll go Nano instead of the RX 480

If by quite a bit you mean 5X better then you're right.
