People have already started to under volt them, power drops off a lot, and performance in some cases is better as they don't hit their power limit.

Also, the linux benchmarks I saw (cant recall the site) show the 480 well ahead of the 970.

Why doesn't AMD know that undervolting them gets better performance? Wouldn't they have seen this in testing?

I think its a bug with either the bios (special made for press so they could test 4gb / 8gb on single card) or drivers. "Wattman" is very new software so might have released it with a bug that is setting voltage higher than it should be. Similar to how the auto downclocking was being too aggressive for some people so they added an option to turn it off.

I am in the market for an RX480. But i will wait for the AIB models with more than one hdmi connector or at least one hdmi + dvi connector. Also, i will wait until the early adopter issues are solved. It is strategic, let the cannon fodder go in first.

I'm not.Coz the 8gb reference card is priced at $430 in my country instead of AMD's suggested $240.Even with 30% tax it shouldn't have been more than $310.This retailer price gouging is insane.Custom 1070 cards start at $575 so why would anyone get RX480 for $430?

I was lucky to find the card at MSRP and ordered 2 units.
After reading reviews I decided to only get 1 so I placed new order and canceled the first one.

Should help with increasing eth difficulty.

That is insane pricing for the rx480.
In the Netherlands, i have seen the RX480 = 319E and the cheapest GTX1070 (The same retailer) is about 529E. About 200 euro more for the GTX1070 and the difference in pricing comes close to the difference in USA prices.

I picked up a reference Gigabyte 8GB. Who knows if it will ever ship out....newegg conveniently decided they had inventory to do on launch day so they are waiting to ship. I'll be highly upset if I dont get a notification today. At this point though, I'm not sure if I even want to keep it. I overlooked the fact I wont be able to OC my monitor because the reference cards have no DVI. So I either sell it right away, or keep it, use it to mine and game at 60hz for a month or so, then sell it and get an AIB with DVI.

AIb should be out in another week or two. Weather you will be able to buy one I'm not sure. It may be a while before they are freely available. I would send it back if you don't want it or use it and try to sell it when AIB will come out but that may be harder.

Yeah, I've got myself in a tough spot, unfortunately. I think there will always be a market for used reference AMD cards (ala 290/290x) due to miners. This card may not have the gaming performance some expected, but it seems to be a pretty efficient miner from what I've read. My thinking is, if I keep it, I'll mine with it for a month to recoup some of the cost I'm going to lose out on when I sell it.

Orrr...I could keep the reference 480 and sell my 290, use that money to pick up an AIB 480 when I can and go xfire.

I'm still waiting for some macOS testing but I should go AMD this time around if there's native support. Would be great as I will get myself a FreeSync monitor in the near future so ...

Will certainly go with a Saphire again as I liked the 290X Vapor I had ...

Currently im waiting for custom cards from ASUS, MSI and Power color.

I will evaluate them and then decide if im going to get an RX 480 or wait for Vega.

edit: I may try a couble RX 480 for mining as well but again im waiting for custom cards, not necessarily OC models but with better cooling.

I've got three friends waiting on AIB cards. I'm happy to wait for Vega with my 290, but if it looks fun to tweak and the prospects of being able to crank the clocks are good, I might pick one up. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me right now though.

I'm betting they do, but they need to frankenstein volt the chips to get enough to sell. If they're expecting to do a 485 refresh, then they want to hit the inflection point where it's still good enough to sell all they can make but they can make as many as possible.

Still using a 1gb 7770 so I SERIOUSLY need the upgrade as a 1080p gamer. I should have bought a 290 for $250 a couple years ago but missed out. I nearly bought a gpu last november but everyone here was telling me to wait for the new cards. I was really hoping the 480x would blow the doors off everyone's expectations and sadly that was not the case.

But it's still a good value to me at $200. 4gb is four times the vram I'm running right now and should be plenty. I will however wait until XFX makes a non blower option, I want a quiet solution. Doesn't matter to me if it blows inside my mammoth case.

A 480 is going to blow the doors off your 7770...

I will be holding onto my 290 CF until gp102 and Vega. Reading the latest review graphs I was still pretty impressed by how far up the chart the 295x2 landed (sometimes nearly at 1080 levels) when it works

My budget is around $240. I never liked blower style coolers and therefore am waiting to see what the AIB have to offer (and the GTX 1060 to a lesser extent as well even though I'm pretty sure that'll be more than $240). My hopes are at a decent AIB 4GB model being $220...

Agreed. I own a HD 7790 1GB. It's still plenty viable horsepower wise for 1080p medium settings, but having only 1GB of VRAM is definitely it's Achilles heel. Even going to 2GB is a dramatic improvement on my similar powered NVIDIA 860M.

Moving from a 7790 1GB to a RX 480 4GB would be amazing upgrade. More than double the performance and 4X the VRAM. Great for 1080p for some time.

$220 sounds realistic for a nice custom 4GB model.

That's actually what I spent for my GTX 960 back in December. I just sold that card at the beginning of last month in anticipation of the RX 480 and got $185 for it.

If I can score a RX 480 AIB for around $220, that'll be some insane performance increase for not that much more $$$. Now it's just a waiting game...:'(

I give stuff to family members if I can afford to do so.

I usually just give my old video card to whichever friend could use it. I actually have a friend still using my old Radeon 4890 and another friend using my old 6970.

I held off from upgrading for sooo long. Will buy a 4GB one once the AIBs start hitting the shelf.

I tend to upgrade my video cards at a rapid clip so giving them away isn't an option (since I use the proceeds from the sale of my older cards to fund the newer ones).

I am excited about having this RX 480 inside of my work system. When it comes time to dump my 1080s, I'll still be able to enjoy games at good quality settings while my gaming systems go offline.

After reading about the imminent 1060 I'm a little bit sad that I didn't wait for it in order to see which product is better, but I'm sure the RX 480 will be nice. It's also my first Radeon in a long time, so what the heck

Well AiB models of the 480 won't even be out by the time the 1060 comes out. The NDA and reviews of the 1060 are coming on the 7th so you still have time.

I already bought the 480, reference model. It's in the mail as we speak.
