I was running fx8300 with rx 480 and r9 290 on 550w PSU. Granted, it was decent 550w unit, but still, r9 290 mining cryptos is quite a load

fx8300 + rx 480 is running below 300 watts

Try lowering the clocks &/or undervolting the GPU to find a sweet spot where the performance doesn't fall of a cliff whilst the power draw is lowered significantly. You'll find that most 480's are fed more voltage than necessary, if you have a high (ASIC) quality GPU the results will be even better, also can use Radeon CC in compatibility mode for even more power savings.

So, all you 480 owners, how is the overclocking looking?

I've been stability testing my 480's undervolt. Rock solid at 1030 on stage 7. My system has an i5-4570, and my UPS has a few other things running on it like my router, but the UPS reports it takes 260 in TW3. I'll try undervolting the memory when I can pry myself off TW3 long enough to, then see about overclocking the little guy.

I'm running a reference RX480 4GB with an i7-6700K in a Dell Precision desktop with stock 365W power supply. I'm worried 365W is not enough, where is that Kill-A-Watt meter when I need it! Anyone else running theirs on a lower wattage power supply?

For what it's worth, my system draws ~260 watts on the PSU. You're *probably* fine, but I'd try undervolting the 480 a little. I would upgrade the PSU if you get the opportunity. I just don't trust the ones OEMs put in.

You should be fine. I just ran kill-a-watt on oc'd 6700k@4.7 and oc'd 480 (1325/2100) using Crysis 3 and max was 305w, usually below 300w. This was on 1000w 80Gold+ PSU, but take away overclocks and should be same usage.

Man I just want a reference 480 for $200 at this point. Forget the nitro. Just sell me a 480 for msrp damnit.

I was about to buy a 480, but the prices here are crazy with next to no real availability. 320-400€(yes thats 350USD+) for reference models is a no go for me. The AIB cards will probably be even more expensive. I guess the waiting game continues for me until the prices settle.

That's unfortunately the case for the rest of the world as well, sans UK & US, & retailer gouging is quickly becoming the norm for most GPU launches!

Thats true, but its still sad that the RX 480 costs in here almost as much as GTX 1070 in US.

Set nowinstock notifications, there have been some trickling out but you have to react quickly to have a chance.

I have a 780 Classified and game at 1440p. I was hoping one of the custom OC 480s would be a nice upgrade but now I'm guessing they'd only give me about 10% performance increase in DX11. I wanted to go AMD but it seems like the 1070 is the only worthwhile move right now.

Sapphire teased the Nitro again today after a countdown...how disappointing.

Still, I considered buying from OCUK because the pound is down and you can pre-order it there.

£233.27 = $256.87 that includes shipping

Cheaper than US price.

My guess is it won't come until August, or mid August.

How will that work for support? Do you get to contact sapphire in US or you will need to send it to the UK?

If they accept PayPal, I may put in a preorder over there if I don't find a new monitor soon and get a 1070 to go along with the monitor.

That's interesting. Go-go weak lb.!

As it stands, the $270 list price for the 8gb is too high for this card, imo.

--If the 4gb can be unlocked to 8gb, though.... :hmm:

I don't know about the support which I admit is the wild card.

They take Paypal and Amazon as well as Debit/Credit

So according to this Facebook post they say check the sites regularly for stock, since release is today.

Yep! same reply I got on FB from them as well.

Still, I don't feel too bad if I take advantage of the weaker currency.

That's the only thing holding me back. I think the 8gb version is $270 converted over. I do think this would include VAT too. I'm going to try and mess around the site to see what the checkout process looks like.

Read the review looks like the 8gb version will have a higher OC.

Edit: Tried to check out on OC UK. Total converted over and shipped $305.

Not going to do it since if you buy it here on newegg there is no tax in my state yet so I would only pay shipping.

Given how the 1060 had AIBs day one, I personally think the delay for AIB 480s is that companies wanted to launch all their cards at once and the 4GB ones weren't ready. I would be surprised in AIB 4GB cards aren't real 4GB cards.

If you buy from EU to the US you dont pay VAT. But the Shop should have a permission to sell outside of the EU.

They do allow to deliver to the US. It's an option when I go to check out. But when it calculates total, I see that it drops the VAT and it's £209. With delivery fee converted over it comes to $305.

Once I go to PayPal the price jumps to £249.95 which converts over to $327.

IMHO, unless mining ethereum, the $270 RX 480 8GB isn't worth the $.

Sapphire Nitro 480 4GB will be $219 and the 8GB version will cost $269.

The $50 extra spent on the 8GB version is better set aside towards a next GPU in 2 years.

Also, if Nitro 480 is $269, that's too expensive against both a GTX1060 at $250 and against a$299 Sapphire Fury. Fury is 16% faster than the Asus Strix at 1440p, and the GTX1060 AIB cards that sell for $250-270 are also faster.

The Asus Strix 480 isn't even as fast as the R9 390X at 1440p but an AIB 980Ti beats R9 390X by 52%.

$370 980Ti AIB / $270 RX 480 8GB Nitro = 37% more expensive for 52% more performance

RX480 4GB AIB = $219
GTX1060 AIB = $250-270
GTX980TI AIB = $370 all lead to the same conclusion.

RX 480 at $270 is overpriced, unless used for gaming+mining or with a FreeSync monitor. The RX 480 4GB is the card to buy as close as possible to the $200 mark. Otherwise, it's better to buy the GTX1060, Sapphire Fury or 980Ti AIB.

It's actually possible to take $25 off $200 with a PayPal code PP2016BTS to bring GTX980Ti AIB down to $345 or Sapphire Fury to $275. At those prices, there is no way I would wait for a $270 RX 480 8GB AIB cards and try hit F5 in hopes of buying them.

Let's not go crazy now because RX 480 still has just 32 ROPs. It's a Low End card in RX 400 series. Paying nearly $300 for a card that's from the same tier as the GTS450 (GF106) is not wise. It's like buying an HD7870 for $350 or HD7950 for $450 right at launch. We know how that turned out. Save your $ and get the RX 480 4GB, then just upgrade again in 2 years OR buy a faster card in the first place.

I have a 780 Classified and game at 1440p. I was hoping one of the custom OC 480s would be a nice upgrade but now I'm guessing they'd only give me about 10% performance increase in DX11. I wanted to go AMD but it seems like the 1070 is the only worthwhile move right now.

RX 480 isn't fast enough for 2-3 years of gaming at 1440p. Go with the GTX1070 or a discounted 980Ti as an upgrade path.

Cheaper than US price.

Currently - 1 British Pound equals 1.31 US Dollar

So the price in USD with shipping is $305.36
