Howcome the 8GB version is $10 cheaper on amazon than Newegg?

Amazon has it for pre-order @ $269.99 and Newegg @ $279.99?

So Newegg contributes to the GPUs inflation as well by actively participating in collecting "early adopter fee"?
Amazon charges tax newegg doesn't in some states.

I also noticed this while I've been browsing 1070's. A day ago the msi model was $439 and now it's $449. Newegg will daily change prices +/- $10 it seems.

Fewer people pay use tax (immediately) at Newegg, which is why they're doing it. Because they know demand is sky high and I imagine because they only have a small advance shipment of cards (they weren't supposed to launch until end of this week/early next week, IIRC). Either that or because they're offering that $25 off $200+ PayPal promotion.

Not happy about it, so I'm skipping 8GB custom cards. I did preorder the 4GB Sapphire Nitro+ cards from Amazon, though. If you have a Discover card the 5% cashback on up to $1500 in purchases from Amazon can cancel out or mostly cancel out sales tax, making ~$230 a card a decent deal. The 4GB may or may not be gimped on the memory. I'll be dissecting one whenever I get it to see what the actual GDDR5 part number is.

Thanks for the links! The Power Color reference was available for an hour or so today. But I was too busy to stop and buy it.

But I've got the non-reference from Power Color and Sapphire on auto notify.

Man I hope these cards can also be unlocked.

Just ordered 5x reference PowerColor 8GB 480's. We don't have any option in Canada to buy aftermarket cards other than the 1060's.

So you are saying Newegg collects taxes for states that don't charge taxes?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we have to pay sales tax in California, and I don't think Newegg will deduct $10 before calculating taxes, they would calculate the total based on the listed $279.99 instead.

Don't forget, Newegg asks for shipping too - $4.99.

Maybe I'm broke, the irony here is I'm living off food stamp and buying this stupid rx 480, but every dollar counts.

When I buy things over $100 online, I expect free shipping, not $4.99. Except that if I'm buying highly perishable/fragile items that required special shipping (insurance blah blah blah), then I understand I have to pay a fair portion of shipping for that.

To me, Newegg is charging $10 extra + $4.99 shipping.

I'm trying to understand what you mean by fewer ppl pay use tax, so Newegg indeeds jetting up prices for new GPUs?

Whatever that is, I know I'm trippin over 10 bucks, really not a big deal, but hey every dollar counts.

Edit: P.S. If I'm rich I wouldn't even look at the price tag, I will just grab the new Pascal Titan X. End of story, play some games and relax. And screw the performance per dollar, I want the best lmao.

They don't pay it at the time of purchase but report it when filing taxes with their state. Or they don't, because the state isn't a stickler on it (many states).

I don't know anyone who's ever (or ever would) reported anything on their state taxes. I would imagine that most people don't even know that you're supposed to report it.

It's not unusual to pay more for something in stock that you don't have to wait for. It's already sold out though.

Just pre order it through amazon and save the $10.

Newegg charges taxes in California, new Jersey, and Georgia, or if you live in a state where they have a distribution center.

This doesn't have anything to do with why they jack the prices up by $10. It happens to the 1070 gpu's as well. They are in it to make money and weren't even suppose to release the cards for sale until the 29th.

Realizing demand is high and people want the nitro + so they know they will pay it and go on.

Anybody know lead times for the $200 card on newegg? I'm looking to build a new machine soon and this card makes/breaks my budget.

* As of 10:30am EST, all 480's are out of stock on newegg, and extremely over priced on amazon

Just a follow-up on this because excitement. These are the non-binned versions. If you want the 1342 clock card you'll have to wait for that one, it is not listed. The current listing is for a 1306 clock. Just like last gen the ones that hit the 1342 will be labeled 'Sapphire Nitro+ OC'

Title straight from the linked page:

Sapphire Radeon NITRO+ RX 480 8GB GDDR5 DUAL HDMI / DVI-D / DUAL DP 11260-07-20G

The 4GB one is clocked slower however.

Yes the 4Gb is clocked lower.

I was referring to this reddit :
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/4uemmh/nitro_oc_8gb_confirmed_binned/

So three Nitro cards but personally I don't need the extra clock

A link exists on Amazon for the OC but no information.

My figuring is pre-order on Amazon since I certainly wouldn't mind one and then see if I can do better with NowInStock for either a good 480 or 1060, ideally on newegg to use that promo code. Amazon preorder seems like a useful hedge/backup plan.

Good plan if you don't care about the slightly oc + model. I had an alert for a 1070 go off at 3am today. I did miss it but there was no way I would have woken up. Slept like a log.

Newegg us the best for me since they don't charge tax in NY, but please note that apparently they no long accept returns for video cards, even if you have NewEgg Premier. Amazon may be better for returns.

I wonder why that is the case. That's horrible though if you end up with a dead card.

Their policy is exchange only. So they would replace a dead card, if that were the case. I think the only way to get an actual refund would be to refuse delivery. Even then they will hit you with a restocking fee.

Yea the only difference would be paying tax. Then again I wonder if they would ever try and say you broke the card from newegg if it were dead on arrival.

Dangg. You are all over those cards lol. Whats your total hashrate for all of those?

I just sold my XFX 8GB I got on clearance at Microcenter for $200, on ebay for $270 (pending payment atm). I was able to snag a powercolor red devil last night. Just got my shipping confirmation from newegg for that about an hour ago

I got my GTX 1060 today and popped it in. I only play less-intensive games like Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch at 3440x1440 res (LG ultrawide). With my i7-6700K + Radeon RX480 it would peak around 250W during gameplay, but it would fluctuate a lot between 200W - 240W. This is with that new "conservative mode" on (maxes card power usage at 150W...supposedly)

With the GTX 1060 (same system with the i7-6700K) it would peak at 162W...but hold pretty steady at that wattage. With my puny 365W Dell PSU i think I would play it pretty safe by just sticking with the GTX 1060. Thanks again guys for the input.
