Let's see, 2% of all Americans are Jewish. Maybe 2% are Muslim. As for the other 96% of us, do we really give a sh|t about Israel?
Consider this: If there's a homicide in Detroit or Los Angeles, it's probably not going to make the national news. Hell, if it's a busy day, it might not even make the local news. Yet, if even one - insignificant - person gets killed in Israel, it's on the breaking news section at Yahoo.com here in America. Why is that?
The internal affairs of Israel are about as relevant to the average American as, say, the internal affairs of Finland or perhaps Zimbabwe. Yet, we don't hear about those two countries 24/7 (and I am Thankful for that). So why the preoccupation with Israel?
Television you can always turn off. News stations won't get any ratings from me as long as they continue to bore me with that irrelevant tripe. What's particularly distressing is the preoccupation our leaders have with sorting out Israeli affairs. It was reported that Bill Clinton spent more facetime with Yasser Arafat than he did with any one of his cabinet ministers. But let's not dwell on the past... I expected better from Bush, even even he seems to be wasting a lot of his time with this sh|t. Whose running America? Last time I checked, Israel is a developed country, and they seem more than capable enough to handle their own problems. If Yasser Arafat wants to talk, let them talk. If he wants to bomb them, let the Israelis kill him. The point is: what does any of this have to do with America?
The place for arbitration of disputes is the UN, or perhaps the WTO. It is not the job of the American President to waste his time trying to make peace between two warring factions halfway across the globe. Nor is it prudent. What benefit is there to America in involving itself in Israel's problems? Umm... September 11?
Make no mistakes. I thourougly support bombing and killing all terrorist scumbags. The Middle East is important to the U.S. But what's important to the U.S. there is cracking down hard on these terrorists and the Saudi princes that finance them, while still securing oil interests, not wasting time hammering out some useless, bound to fail resolution between Israel and Palestine.
Besides, how many Americans actually give a sh|t about Israel or Palestine?
Furthermore, everytime someone gets killed in Israel, there does not need to be a thread on it.
<-- Not interested in Israel or Palestine.
