Who doesn't have a tablet?

Tablets are becoming so popular nowadays. It's like everyone wants one, not sure why. Is it the portability factor? The socializing factor, like Facebook, etc? What's the big appeal?

I must be totally out of it because I have no desire to get one. Just a regular ole' PC works just fine.

I'm in the same boat as you except my girlfriend got a tablet and I do think its cool. Its just a Kindle Fire HDX which is apparently very similar to the Nexus 7.

I make fun of her saying its a "Giant phone that can't make phonecalls" but if you spend money for content like Amazon prime, which comes with movies and a 'library' of books, plus Netflix, buy books/movies/games here or there, its a cool little device for watching movies with an awesome screen. Its a money sink though.

I've got one. I cleaned the dust off it yesterday, it sits that much. Desktop and laptop get much more use.

For pure consumption and portability, it works well. But trying to use it for anything just blows. Can't stand typing on it at all.

I have one, but I only use it to play Tapped Out and FIFA 14. Could easily leave without it. It came free with my cable package.

I don't. I don't see the point of tablets, outside of certain commercial settings.

I do have a laptop, netbook, Kindle, and smartphone. I just don't see what niche the tablet could possibly fill between those.

Tablets are one of those things where perhaps you do not know you 'need' one until you have one. My first was an ipad 1, on a whim just to see what all the fuss was about. However, over time it took the place of my laptop for recliner/couch surfing, lazy youtube/Netflix watching, bathroom reading material, kitchen cooking aid, and many more things I never really knew I wanted or needed.

Now I would be very put off without a tablet. I still use my laptop or PC from time to time, more so when the specific software or horsepower is required, but for almost all other 'round the house' usage, my tablet is a must.

Just as a FYI I am using the ASUS Transformer now and my wife has a nexus 10. Gave the ipad to my nephew.

Me. I was being retarded and bought a Playbook shortly after launch -- barely used it, then sold it for 1/4 of what I paid a year later.

Tapped Out is oddly addicting. I've been playing for over a year now, and I'm up to level 38. At this point, I'm just waiting on EA to add more content

I have the ipad 3 and use it every day. The draw is not specific apps or anything, it's the form factor and portability. It's far and away a more convenient device than a desktop or laptop for browsing the internet. ATOT and the NYT looks great on it and I'd much rather sit on the couch reading websites on it than a laptop.

I use mine quite a bit. Couch net surfing, netflix, games etc. iPad Mini is my tablet of choice.

I thought the iPad was an incredibly stupid thing when it came out. Didn't know why anybody would want a giant iPod Touch. Then I too bought one on a whim to see what the fuss was about. It's since become invaluable to me. They're ideal for surfing the web on the couch, watching videos, and light work. When I worked at the store, I had a service that allowed me to buy and download newspapers that I could read offline. Used to watch a lot of movies on it during slow days.

Honestly, I wish something like that existed when I was in university. Would have saved my back a bit.

I think tablets are ideal for most people as most people really don't need a powerful or bulky computer. They just consume media and that's what these things are designed to do.

I'll probably get an Android tablet next go around. I like the iPad. The hardware is great. But I hate having to jailbreak just to get SD card storage or play a few classic games on emulators. Though I trust Google less than I do Apple with my data. However, Windows RT doesn't have great app support.

We got a kindle as a gift. Kids use it the most.

It's great for toilet material and travel. We like to use it when we go camping sometimes to for music and maybe a movie.

I wouldn't buy one if it wasn't a gift, just cant justify it. Same goes for my smartphone (if my job didn't pay for it I wouldn't have one.

These devices are just gimmicks.

If you travel a lot they are great.

PC or laptop are my preference whenever I do anything outside of viewing on the tablet. I never send emails on it or type....

Yes, I can understand the portability part of it. Though on the other hand, if I'm going to be on a couch, I'd rather not do what I usually do on a chair anyway - to surf. Then it becomes computer-use overboard. It's like we have all these devices that allow us to spend even more time, like that's what we need, on the net.

I've bought three tablets and called it quits because my wife keeps breaking or losing the chargers and they're finicky Ibex android tablets (Flytouch). Great tablets but WTF. MicroUSB too hard to charge from? Why do they need three amps for cryin out loud.

I snagged an HP Touchpad when they had the fire sale. Only used it a few times in the first year.

And then my aunt got me hooked on Words for Friends. So I just had to install Android so that I could play. I'm addicted. I spend all day waiting for new words.

I've had 3. Every time I buy one, I use it for a while then it just becomes redundant to my phone. It's easier to carry my phone so I end up selling the tablet.

I recently picked up the Galaxy Mega which is in between both worlds and is working fine so far.
