I am of that group that does not have a tablet.

I used to have an HP TR3000 tablet at work.

It wasn't bad for most work once you hooked up keyboard, mouse, and external drive. It was perfectly horrible for the intended job: running ArcPad with BT GPS in the field.

I have a Samsung tablet and the most use it gets is when my GF uses it for various things, but mostly candy crush. I would use it more if I had a data plan with it, but I can only use it if I have wifi so it stays home, where I also have my laptop and phone. If I had a plan on it I'd use it just to avoid using my phone as much.

Can't share the data from your phone? Most phones have hotspot function now...

Kindle Fire HD 8.9 inch with prime. My almost 4 year old son uses it the most, he can watch tractor video's for house if I'd let him. I can see a use for a cellular connected tablet some day.

I only got a tablet because of work, but now I can't live without it. Very useful little devices. I got a Nexus 10. I love my 2 desktops, though (no laptops).

i have one but only use it for games and displaying recipes when i'm cooking. it is nice for plane trips though. they are a lot cheaper now and you have tons of options so they're easy to get sucked into.

Same. It's became my newspaper, magazine subscription, and forum/social media keeper.

I keep it next to my nightstand, and it starts instantly, so I can go over my day in a few minutes before I get out of bed. I use it at work during lunch to catch up on the news, I use it to pop videos on my TV with my Chromecast, and even play a few games at night.

Actually find I'm using it more than my PC for entertainment, and the battery lasts like a week.

Never bothered. I had used 1st gen iPod Touch to surf and watch videos in bed, so became accustom to small size. So iPhone 5 is fine as portable device as current to go device. But I have to admit, the iPad Mini 2 looks darn attractive.

In my house there are four tablets:

1. 2013 Nexus 7 - does everything my netbook used to do, used daily for browsing forums, reading mail, browsing internet, playing games, managing my servers, etc.

2. iPad 2 16GB - best tech purchase ever. Web browser, game console, and XBMC player for my wife

3. Asus Transformer TF201 - Mostly a mkv playback device (has HDMI out) and Super Nintendo emulator (I keep it on 4.1 for Wiimote support). Also I hook it to its dock if I need to bang out a document, but I might get a bluetooth keyboard for my Nexus and stop that.

4. Nook Color - bathroom reading device

I have a desktop, a laptop, a Nexus7 tablet and Nexus S phone.
I love my tablet for it's portability. I can go on the internet anywhere in the house, even while taking a bath. The trick is not to drop it in the water.

I would not live without one now but it's only good for entertainment. For serious work nothing beats the desktop.

didn't have one until September. didn't need it but it's nice for portability if you don't need a full laptop. much easier to use and carry around.

Thread: Who doesn't have a tablet? Reply to Thread Tablets are becoming so popular nowadays. It's like everyone wants one, not sure why. Is it the portability factor? The socializing factor, like Facebook, etc? What's the big appeal?

I must be totally out of it because I have no desire to get one. Just a regular ole' PC works just fine.

No Tablet here. No Poll either. Poll?????

My wife has a Kindle Fire HD and I have a Dell Inspiron XPS 10 with Windows 8.
I hardly ever turn on my desktop anymore.
Casual surfing, email, sports and news, recipes ... all done on the tablets now.
I like the iPad but I believe they are over rated and overpriced.

All the fun in the industry is in tablets and mobile devices right now. Desktops may not be dead, but the exponential increase in desktop power is gone.

Since 2010 the fun in the tech industry has been in mobile. Mobile is where we see 50% performance jumps year over year. Mobile is the fast-growing market.

Mobile is the sexy.

Not an Apple fan, but the iPad Mini is the perfect size, and it's under $300. Probably even cheaper with the new ones coming out. That's not bad at all. Not to mention that when you go to sell it you only take a 20-30% loss in price.
