I literally walked right into Gordie Howe while not paying attention...I looked up and muttered 'Sorry' then walked off. Unfortunatly at the time all I was thinking was damn, he looks familiar and I didn't figure out it was Howe until about 30 mins later

When I was strolling through Central Park in 1988 with my mom we passed Yoko Ono walking with a friend, my mom snapped a picture. I was a kid at the time, so I didn't really understand the significance of seeing her. I went to see a Regis and Kathie Lee taping a few years ago where Nicholas Cage was a guest, I got his autograph outside, but my pen leaked all over his hand Funny the autograph signing was before the show, but he apparently washed his hands pretty good because there was no evidence of ink on his hands on the tape I have of the show. Another time I was at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut a few years back and Joe Cocker was at the bar with a friend, I didn't approach him though.


edit - not a big celebrity (not yet anyway), but Amy Poehler who recently joined the SNL cast, her family lives on the next street over from me and is where she grew up, and her mom was my school teacher. Some of you might know her from the Upright Citizens Brigade show that used to be on Comedy Central, she was one of the 4 main characters.

Having gone to UCLA, I have quite a few sightings as they film quite a few things on campus, and there are a few Hollywoood "stars" that attend (and Michelle Kwan), and there are also premieres in Westwood pretty often. The only really "famous" person that I actually interacted and spoke with would be James (I think) Browning. I believe he is the 3rd generation owner/"big wig" of this little company that makes firearms call "Browning". I had brunch with him. I knew his name, I knew he "owned" a gun company.. but I didn't really put 2 and 2 together until afterwards. It was kind of a head smacking moment when I realized.. "Do you know what company it was that he owned?" "I don't know.. wait.. Browning.. THE Browning? wow"

When I was up in NYC about 3 weeks ago I actually walked into Nathan Lane... it was a Friday night, 7 PM, about an hour away from when the Producers start on weeknights and was about a block away from the theater. It was at a street corner and we both we walking towards each other on the building side of the sidewalk, and we turned the corner at the same time bumping into each other, he said 'sorry' as did I and we went on our merry way. I didn't know it was him till a few minutes later. Also when I was up there, Larry King was signing his new book at the Barnes & Noble in Rockefeller center (49 & 5th ave I think) all it was way me saying 'Hi, I love your show", he signs the book, say thanks and he says have a great holiday season and shakes my hand. Later the next day, (Sunday) I was down in little Italy walking around and I stop in at a cafe to have a drink and sitting about 2 tables to my right is Janeane Garofalo talking to one of her friends I guess... I didn't say anything to her though, she probably gets it a lot and she just wants to be alone. I also saw Bush in his Limo when he was going to the UN, they closed 50th street for his motorcade so pedestrians couldn't cross so I had to wait, but I go to see him, so it kind of evened out. 4 sightings in 4 days, not too shabby. Jesse Jackson came and spoke at our school once, as did Al Gore. ummmm...... can't think of any more right now, its late and all.

Last week, I shook hands with Professor Benoit Mandelbrot after a lecture he gave at my school on fractals in science, engineering, and finance. He is the one who came up with the notion of fractality (a term probably familiar to anybody who has studied chaos theory).

About a month ago, I shook hands with Tim O'Reilly, the one who owns the publishing company for all those Programming in (insert programming language here) and (again, insert programming language here) In a Nutshell books with the animals on them.

Both are really cool nice guys.

I don't have many, just mostly Minnesota Viking interactions, at a very minimal level.

Chris Carter(wide reciever), talked a bit with him (chit chat) at spring training when I was probably 15. This guy is awesome, totally deserves a ton of respect. He's what an athlete should be. (unlike his counterpart Moss. bleh.) I think Warren Moon was with him at the time and we spoke a little as well (could be wrong though, I just remember carter)

John Randal (Defensive line, IIRC) would come into the gas station I worked at periodically. I never really mentioned much to him, we just nodded at eachother. He was BIG AS HECK! Yeesh.

Mitch Berger (punter, heheh). I was fixing a computer system for a video store, that a friend worked at. He walks in, and I didn't know it was him. But he had this HOT ASS woman with him, and I'm all "oh my god!". Then he comes to the register and I ring him up since I was there and it says on the screen "Say thanks for the great season" or something to that effect, and I saw his name. He rented any given sunday. I still mostly remember the girlfriend of his though. damn. I guess he had an interview in a Playboy a couple months back, about his dating stories. I guess he has a reputation of getting a lot of fine ones.

Ken Griffey Jr. at a Twins game up here. He tossed a ball to me during warm ups and I threw it back. But he was my idol from back in the day so it made my month.

Met Fred Durst at sexworld here, they were trying to by some sort of drug paraphenelia and arguing with the clerk over the closing time for that particular section of the store. They eventually got what they wanted. The band member he was with was really f-in scary lookin'.

My little claim to fame is my fiance is related to Bruce Springsteen. He's her great uncle, but it's still cool since she carries the name. I guess he goes to extended family reunions once in a while when they have them, so I may meet him someday.

And my GF "won" the placekicker for the gophers in some "date" auction. She had a major crush on him I guess, he was a grade above her in HS. I guess he's rather good, so he'll prolly make the pro's. When that happens it will be cool to say when watching a game "hey, the wifey dated that guy!"

oh well, lame.. but who cares.

Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child live in my subdivision. I met them a few weeks ago at a local family-owned Japanese restaurant. They were the only customers there and I came in to pick up a to-go order. They followed me outside and I was parked right next to Kelly's car. I had my windows half-way down b/c my dogs (miniature pinschers) were in the car and Beyonce reached in to pet them. They were extremely cool and every bit as beautiful as they appear on TV and in magazines.

my cousin fixed rich aurila's (sf giants) laptop.. he brought it into his compusa..

two instances with robin williams... my friend was working at EB and robin walked in and bought some stuff then left.. the other instance is when my sister's ex-boyfriend did some catering job for him at his house for a christmas party a couple years ago! that was pretty cool.. got an auto for my sister.. she still has that in a frame... he said he also saw joe montana (sf 49er legend) and danny glover and a buncha other guys.. i also drove by robin's house a few times... cause he lives right by my friend... thta's about it
