Take culture, wealth and technological advances into consideration.
I would definatly have to say that the Romans are far more amazing then the Egyptians were. The Egyptians had the pyrimids, but the Romans had the coliseum which is the size of a modern stadium, the Romans also had the pantheon.
I think that most people would say the Egyptians because of pop culture, but if you really like deeply into it, the Romans had devoloped some pretty amazing stuff, they were able to use water for power already using water wheels to generate power for mills. The Romans also had a much bigger empire.

Romans, definately. They had an empire spanning from the British Isles to deep into the Middle east, and into Africa as well. It was an empire that lasted for centuries as well, even up until the 19th century with the Holy Roman Empire.

Both were good for their times. I'm sure if the Egyptians had lived in Roman times, then they would have done well, too...

Nah, it's not a essay for school and this would be a horrible intro for an essay. I was just wondering how people here thought of these empires, most people asked would say the Egyptians though.

The romans, the affects from their empire are still plainly visable today. Egyptians, not so much.

Akhenaton apparently established the first monotheistic religion, but the Roman influence in technology and culture seems long-lived and more extensive in comparison.

The Romans had in-house heating, and an incredible ability to lay down straight roads across hundreds of miles. Pretty sure a lot of the main roads in the British Isles are old Roman roads. I am sure their teeth were straighter too.

It depends what you mean by "better". The Egyptian empire was NEVER technically an "empire" like Rome's. Rome conquered and annexed provinces, and then setup local imperial/senatorial administration and organized and developed the province. Its people were taxed, offered citizenship, recruited into the Roman army, etc..

Egypt, on the other hand, never assumed direct rule of provinces beyond her own borders (except for Nubia and the Sinai); her empire was purely tributary and defensive in nature. Conquered provinces were not annexed or even administered by Egypt, they just became vassals with their own rulers, who had to pay annual tribute and act as military buffer states against her enemies. This is why she went "imperial" in the first place; she either wanted a piece of their commercial action (Phoenicia), or they were strategically situated between Egypt and an enemy (Palestine and Syria). Even during the New Kingdom when the state was militarized and a full-time, highly-organized professional army developed, Egypt was a defensive power whose main military goal was to prevent another invasion like that of the Hyksos.
