Never heard of them until someone in town posted on FB pics of him camping out at the Target all night to be first in line. Limit of 2, he and his buddy got 4 of the 10 that the store received. Glad my kids have outgrown that kind of stuff.

There was a Fark article in the last week or so about some idiot that bought 100+ of these on eBay at inflated prices, hoping to scalp them over again for even more.

Then they found out eBay and Amazon now have limits of how many of a hot toy you can sell, like around 10 of them total by Christmas.

They're now tens of thousands in debt from their toy scalping attempt. Karma!

Wouldn't be hard to make multiple accounts on ebay and sell them there or on amazon / craigslist and such.

If anything limiting how many you can sell like that would just make prices increase for normal buyers.

Remember the Bennie Baby craze and Tomagotchies? (spelling?) So lame. People make me sick. In fact, if I were running for Pres, I'd hire a Japanese marketing firm to come up with a toy that advertises my campaign in a unique way. Probably even create an interactive App too. And then watch the votes come in. LOL

LOL! Awesome! The scalper bastards screwed with the Nintendo Classic too. It was $60 and I wanted to buy my Bro one for xmas. But noooo, they jacked the price up to about $200. You'd either have to be stupid, nuts or even crazy to pay that price when I can just run an emulator on a netbook connected to the TV FFS!

I love the reviews...57% are 1 star. A coworker told me she camped out at Target in the cold this past weekend and snagged the last one they got. I have no idea what she paid for it, aside from time and being indoors. I don't know who determines which toys are the most popular....seems to me if you don't watch advertisements or pay attention to social media it can save you a ton of money from buying junk like this.

The coolest toys I've bought for my kids in the last week were a couple of bubble wands from Disneyworld. They were $15 each, but they love those things....they blow constant bubbles, light up, play music and haven't broken yet (and have been refilled like 5 times each with new bubble juice).

Evidently my 3 year old daughter is getting two of them. One from her aunt and another from her god mother who both compete for her affection. She will be excited for the first day or so but im sure will soon loose interest and go on to other things.

I've had a suspicion for a few years now that these things are actually our world's first SAC's (stand alone complex's). They just sort of sprout up out of the ground, you never even see advertising for them until they're already so popular that you can't help but have heard about them. Ads come after the fact, news coverage comes after the fact. Just really bizarre.

Just heard about them today. Holy sh!t, the Keepa Box price chart for this on Amazon is through the roof. $54 in October then supply I guess all dried up and now resellers are hawking these things for over $200.

Sounds like you should "save" one for a more "fortunate" kid... Wink wink.

We got one some months ago with no idea it would be like this. No temptation to sell on ebay. We're rich.

Gruen was peddling 156 Hatchimals to raise legal fees for a California man...

But she still faced a barrage of criticism from people who decided she was guilty of hogging Hatchimals and then making them unaffordable for some parents.

Seriously, if you really want to screw these opportunists over, just don't buy them. Leave them with a couple thousand dollars worth of inventory they can only sell at a loss once supply from the manufacturer is adequate post-Christmas. But waiting is for losers.

No Hatchimal, but this is the year I was finally allowed to buy a Furby after being on the waiting list for 18 years.
