I used to have a sony clie s360 which I used for calendar, contacts, avantgo offline web browsing, etc.

The screen cracked, so I bought a Dell x30 624mhz.

What sucks is that I would need to start using Outlook if I want to sync the calendar and contacts with the device. TOTALLY sucks. I loved palm's little efficient app Palm Desktop which could do exactly what your palm could do and little else. Also it's a little big to fit in my pocket, and too big to hook to my belt when sitting down.

One good thing about the x30 is I can watch media files on it.

Other than that I wish I'd just bought another used s360.

Active Sync should start Outlook for you automatically in the background. I dislike this feature though as it runs it as a background process and if I want to stop Outlook, I must use the task manager. It seems to take a long time to sync if not connected for a while as well and you have a ton of changes/messages.

Yes, but then could you still use Outlook?

I had an Axim X5 and then a Tungsten T2, and then I tried one last hoorah with an Axim x50v. I never really used it that much other than to watch movies and play games, so I decided to buy a Sony PSP which allows me to do both, for less money.

I have a Dell Axim x30 that I was able to get retail for $100 through my school for a wireless web class. I'm VERY happy with the unit, it looks nice, operates like Windows, and lets you do so much with it.. in fact I use mine with a bluetooth GPS receiver for navigation in my car. I also use mine to play lots of very nice games during boring lectures (RPG fans will LOVE a game called Arvale) and sometimes play MP3's during work.

I'm waiting for a dual-purpose PDA/Phone, I think. The Motorola MPx(300) looks basically like what I'd want, except that it's ungodly expensive, and I've heard it's a little slow (not enough memory, CPU could stand to be faster). Oh well, I can wait.

That's what I was looking at too for a while...Every combo I've seen those always seems to be much more expensive than the equivalent sum of its parts.

I have a Sony Clie T615-C and use it primarily for medical apps--epocrates, 5 Minute Clinical Consult, etc. Also I of course use the datebook and have Avantgo installed.
