So I have a treo 650 right now and use it for email (goodlink) and IM's (verichat).

Want something smaller/thinner that still has a full QWERTY keyboard and the blackjack looks like a winner.

How do you like it? Haven't been able to find a cingular store that has one in stock that I can demo.

One question i have is whats up with the spacing of the numberic keys? Why aren't they next to each other like on everyother PDA/smartphone?!

I went for the 8525, the blackjack didn't have Wifi. I also like the touch screen, again BlackJack doesn't have it.

Well the 8525 doesn't fit the bill as being thinner/lighter than the treo. And i don't really care about wifi, pretty much everywhere I go has 3G. Its a nice phone but, not what I'm looking for. Yes I like the touchscreen too, but I rarely use it, the palms one handed operation is so good that I don't need to. I've heard its more of an issue with WM phones.

I don't own one, but I recently spent a few hours setting one up for a client. Awesome little phone. Thin, light, but still has a solid feel. Screen is very sharp. There were a few odd applications that I would have liked to remove if it had been mine. The numeric keypad spacing was odd, but I think the logic was that one-handed dialing would require less tactile precision.

yeah, I know its not smaller and lighter. I think that the 650 is still a decent phone and it may not be worth it to upgrade quite yet from a usability point of view. You might consider a 6 month wait to see what is next.

I'm guessing it's to make dialing one-handed easier; avoids fat-fingering.

Cool looking device. I have a Treo 600. I didn't get a 650, but I've been thinking about buying a 700. This looks cool, though.

for the numberic keys can you hit the button next to it and it is still dials?

See this picture , i guess it was an early sample, seems to suggest that both keys in the outlined area can be used to dial

The one I played with didn't have that white outline surrounding the number and the key next to it. That said, I never tested out punching the adjacent key when dialing a number manually.

Anyone get the blackjack? GSM Arena is reporting the Samsung i600 to have wifi.

Edit:

Samsung i600 != Samsung BlackJack

Yes I have the Blackjack and I am very happy with it. The number keys are actually very nice, if you hit the key to the right of the number it also types in the number. So for example the "E" key is also the 1 but if you hit the "R" which isn't a marked number key, it also types in 1 for you. The battery life isn't amazing, but it lasts the day. As long as you charge it every night you'll be fine. What I like best is I did the dslreports mobile speed test and I got download of 932Kb/s, they didn't list upload I don't believe. It maybe placebo or just better reception but it seems like especially when i'm on the 3G network I get clearer sounding calls.

Some will flame my a$$ for saying this as they did in other threads, but I didnt like the Blackjack. The controls seemed too cluttered, and many reviews said the same thing. It looks good though. How about a blackberry pearl? Those things look great and the trackball works wonderfully. I decided not to get it though because I dont like the suretype. Im gonna wait for the Blackberry 8800 to come out; it's essentially the same as the Pearl, but it has a full qwerty keyboard.

well i picked one up and i love the form factor, so far IM+ is a horrible replacement for Verichat and WIndows Live MObile doesn't work quite as well as the native google app for my Treo.

But I'm still getting used to how the smartphone works

I bought one samsung phone and hated it. Swore I would never buy one again. They make cheap flimsy phones.

I totally want the Ultra Messaging i600

If only they didn't cripple wifi in the BlackJack

The i600 also includes a front VGA camera as well, but both that and the wifi feature are useless to me.

Yeah, being more realistic, I'd probably go with the BlackJack instead of waiting and then dealing with the hassle of sourcing an actual phone from a legit dealer. I'll probably get the BlackJack from Cingular when I know I can apply for a discount

so in order to get internet on this puppy, do you have to subscribe to a separate PDA/Data plan on top of your voice plan?
