The past 2 days at my gym I've seen multiple people wearing masks below their nose and I've said something to the staff. Yesterday the staff told the one guy who was doing it kind of near me and he pulled his mask back up. Like 10 minutes later he had it back down. Today I saw him again and he had it down. I wasn't working out near him at all today or yesterday after the staff talked to him.

So when I left today I said something again to the front desk about how like 5-6 people were wearing masks below their nose while working out and they were thankful that I brought it to their attention.

If they don't get on top of this and I see more people working out like that tomorrow I'm going to shoot corporate an email about it. All they need to do is just have one person walk around the floor every 10 minutes or so and tell people to pull it up if they aren't wearing it properly. And if their are repeat offenders they need to be told to leave if they won't abide.

Dont go to gyms yet, but I am seeing a lot of the same thing in stores and other social situations. Just cant believe people are so inconsiderate of others. I havent said anything yet, because I just noticed it in passing in a store, so wasnt around them long. If I were to be in close contact for more than a couple of minutes, I think I would say something.

This is my second week back at the gym and I hadn't seen anyone do this until yesterday. And then I saw more people doing it today. I don't know if they were doing it last week and I wasn't paying attention or just the people there at the time today were just assholes.

Thankfully my gym is large and I typically am in a few different spots for my whole workout, and it's not crowded really when I go so there is still enough space. But still, like if you are going to go through the hassle of wearing a fucking mask to workout, wear it properly.

at what point do we realize that promoting healthy lifestyles -> working out, eating right, supplementation are more effective than lockdowns?
A few Olympic athletes got the virus and knocked them down on their butts for 2-3 months. Probably permanent damage to their organs, too.

I posted this in OT but will post it in here since it's relevant.

Just worked out with my Under Armour mask. It's better than the Adidas ones for sure. It still does "cave in" a bit when I am breathing heavy and while it doesn't completely stick to your mouth, it definitely tries. It's better than the Adidas one by far though.

It feels a bit small vertically. Like I wish it hugged my chin a bit more on the bottom of my chin like the Adidas one. Because of this I notice it sliding down slightly on my nose if I'm making faces while lifting. It never slide off my nose exposing my nostrils completely or anything, but it felt like it could have.

I also wish the wire in the nose piece area held better. Mine definitely doesn't seem to be bending as much as I'd like to hold the curvature around my nose.

All of these issues I didn't really notice though until the mask was basically saturated in sweat. And these are pretty minor issues overall I liked it. I do think that for $30 that the price is stupid expensive, especially since I got 3 of the Adidas ones for like $18 or something. These should be like $10 max for one. They know what they are doing though because while I was in the store yesterday 3 people came in asking for them and bought them. But that is just the UA tax I guess.

I'm on the fence on ordering the UA mask considering the Adidas 3 pack appear to be sold out.
Need to upgrade my current cotton mask

I've worked out in both of them and the UA one is much better to workout in. If you sweat a lot on your face under your mask, when the Adidas ones get water logged they get a bit stretchier and they will stick to your mouth/nose as you are breathing in and out. The UA one won't do that. For that alone I'd get the UA one for $30 instead of a 3 pack of Adidas for $20 or whatever it is.

Sounds fine as long as the tv monitors in the gym don't have videos showing the slow motion spray of droplets through a mask or around the edges of it from someone sneezing through it.

Picked up the UA mask.
So far so good and thanks for the input. Going to have to see how well it passes the glasses test (fogging up)

The Asics mask looks interesting but I think its a bit too specialized to justify the price tag.

I'm guessing the UA one will fog up glasses. The wire around the nose is not very tight especially when it starts to get wet from sweat. So the air will go up there. That is one thing I hate about the Adidas ones too. I can't wear em with my sun glasses or normal glasses because they fog.

I have some defog for my dive mask too I wonder if that will work if I put a coating of it on my glasses. Never really thought about giving that a go.

I decided to build up a home gym. Mainly because I stopped going and wasn't getting anything out of PF after I stopped training for marathons (last one was January 2019). It was a waste.

I have a few dumbbells that go up to 40lbs each....so ok weight, but nothing major. I may grab some select weights or whatever, but these are fine for now. I'm not trying to gain huge muscle and really care more about maintaining moderate muscle while trying to lose weight through cardio.

I ordered an inclined bench and built a pullup bar in my garage out of iron pipe hanging from the ceiling. I ordered an Echelon bike and have been trying to walk more...until I lose a respectable enough amount of weight that I can start really running again (trying to protect my feet by not running at my current weight). I'm doing the Echelon classes 4-5 days a week at the moment and usually am in the top 5 on those classes. No mask required.

First major workout with yesterday.
HEEEE-UUUUGE improvement over the cotton one I was wearing. Even at full blast with sweat and me sucking wind it did well.
Fogging was minimal but will have to see how it does once weather and humidity plays out.
Some occasional adjustments mid work out but over all, no buyers remorse.

Glad you like it.

I definitely have to do little adjustments here and there but it's fine. I also am pulling it down to wipe my face off and get water too which requires adjustments afterwards too. But again it's just fine.

I am curious to see how long this mask lasts. I'm definitely starting to see some wear on the outside of it but it doesn't really effect functionality.

It sure looks like you can see through the mask. Most likely it doesnt do much to protect anyone close by or to protect, i think its wildly irresponsible to even go to the gym (even if its open) its like going out to eat and dinning outdoors next to everyone else. why risk it? I go to the beach and surf go out and do things but i dont go around other people unless its essential like the grocery store and wear n95/surgical over the n95.

The ASICs mask is specifically for running. Not the gym or general usage.

it doesn't do much to protect others around you is my point, not sure why you bring up the gym or general use, because who cares about health if you are running? do people not run in the gym? /me confused.

I don't know about your area but in this area all gyms require masks full time and treadmills are spaced out. At least in my same part of the country, gym staff are aggressive at keeping jackasses in check and apply an adhere to rules or lose your membership.
The asics mask is a good solution for running outdoors. Where distancing is easily attained and the mask helps contain droplet spread. It's also effective when you are in a controlled environment where everyone is socially distancing and you are wearing a product that controls the spread of droplets as you exhale.

It's a specific product for specific usage.

im going to stick with it being irresponsible to go to the gym eat out etc. i dont care if you have a n95 or a fake asics mask on, its poor idea. "but but its open and treadmills are spaced out" sorry not buying it, not a good idea to go with a real mask or a fake mask. This thread is about visiting the gym and wearing a mask.

So you are posting in this thread to simply yell at everyone for going back to the gym.
Ok.
That's fine and all but I think we don't have much else to talk about.

I run outdoors and all I said was this about the asics ask

Since most gyms are open now (at least in my area and many other countries), I and many others can resume their workout routines and aim for that ab look we were trying to get! I started going to the gym for that reason alone, but poor me couldn't figure out what was wrong after a few months of training and I wasn't getting abs. Turns out getting abs isn't that easy, and requires many steps! Diet, training, you've got to count your daily calories so you don't go overboard, and much more details I'm probably forgetting right now... In fact, it was so many things to keep track of, that my mind went blank and I right there and then, decided to use best machines at the gym to get abs. I wanted to it normally, but I want them quick. After a few weeks of use, they're starting to appear, little by little, but it's going to take a long time before they're a truly a 6 pack.

You're welcome. I read that article, nice to know. 3 days ago, me and our youngest of 4 at local waterpark. Turn 47 in December. Don't really watch what I eat. Just try to stay active.
