Who has heard of Roger Whittaker before?

So, randomly wondering here: I grew up listening to my Dad's records (I'm in my late 20s for reference), which were mostly classical recordings but also had a few classics like Peter, Paul and Mary....and Roger Whittaker. I think to date, I haven't met *anyone* outside my family familiar with him (though it isn't a popular question to ask friends ) Who here has heard of him/heard his music?

Great voice, great orchestra arrangements on his older recordings.

I have a soft spot for those long infomercials for CD sets since a college classmate of mine has done a couple of those commercials. You know, the stuff like, "...and when America was going all out to celebrate its bicentennial, we were grooving to great songs by Boston, like Don't Look Back and More Than a Feeling..." <cue music>

Dad did not trust mail order. But he bit on a Boxcar Willie double cassette offer. After 6-8 weeks a package arrives......a set on Ginsu Knives. He was so mad, and it only substantiated his distrust....until the Boxcar Willie arrived a few days later.
Turns out my sister had ordered the knives right around the time she was going to change apartments, so she had them delivered to our home address. I still laugh about it.
Those tapes were always on in the car. Auto-reverse, over and over again.

I'd heard of Roger Whittaker, but it was never on in the house. Now Roger Miller, he was on a lot. High from the highest treeeeee...

That's what I remember. The late 70s and early 80s late-night TV ads for some guy I never heard of. He and Slim Whitman.

Damn, haven't heard that name in forever. Way back in the 70's I'm pretty sure I heard his songs, but only really recall the K-Tel ads. Listening to these links reminds me of the time, seems like Variety show fare, but also am impressed by it. There are so many great singer/songwriters we have access to that just get forgotten by the constant deluge of new material.
