Here is a question that came up with interesting results, informally of course.

At an intersection with a 4 way Stop sign, two vehicles arrive at the same time. Who has right of way? The vehicle on the Left or the vehicle on the Right? Poll included.

I am in Wisconsin and I know state laws can be different. Just wondering.

No cheating, just answer the poll without researching the question

Thanks for playing,
Bob

You always yield to the person on the right but since there's always someone on the right in this instance, it's whoever guns it first.

usually the right, IIRC. though i never make any assumptions that other drivers know even the basic rules of the road (like left lane is for passing only), so ill usually flash them to go ahead, regardless of the position.

especially since its hard to determine right vs left when the tie is btw cars coming from opposite directions.

In case of tie, I always wave the other person through. Safer than both of assuming to go first.

It's always the vehicle on the right, in a drive right country.

If the guy on the left goes first, the guy on the right must wait longer to start clearing the intersection.

In the event of "a tie," the vehicle on the immediate right. There is no question of this.

this is not the case in Berkeley, however--where whoever feels that the intersection belongs to them, has the right of way. ALWAYS.

/invokes memory of driver's ed, eighteen years ago...

"Right-of-way can only be assumed or taken when it is given."

If there is a correct answer to the question, then I would assume it would be the vehicle on the right going counter-clockwise around the intersection. But I can't seem to remember "the law" on this.

opposing cars, it is like any other intersection. the person going straight has right of way over person turning left. Both can go at the same time if both are heading straight.

This is why TURN SIGNALS ARE IMPORTANT.

I'm looking at all of you asshats who drive in the Bay Area.

If I see this about to happen I will slow down and make sure I come to a stop after them. I prefer to just avoid this situation, seeing as how nobody seems to follow the rules.

The answer is "always me," because either I'm on the right or the person on the right doesn't realize they're supposed to go so I say fuck it and go.

Turn signals are all but obsolete in Wisconsin as well. In the rare event that someone does use em, it's when they've just about stopped the entire line of cars behind them to make the turn and just turning into it.

The other day I actually had to laugh because it was a Illinois driver (we loves FIBs up here) in a Sequoia who cut from the right lane to the left lane to get into the left turn lane, and then finally uses his left turn signal just as he's to the intersection.. only to make a right turn across the two lanes he just cut across almost causing a pile up. I was already slowed down to steer clear of the guy because sadly I see this somewhat often.

Vehicle on the right. I nearly got into a crash because a dipshit old lady well deep into her senile years thought because she arrived AFTER me at a 4 way stop that she had right of way. Fucking idiot nearly t-boned me if I hadn't stopped. Here's the real kicker, she didn't even stop until she was already where I would be t-boned if I didn't hit the brakes. She looks at me with an unhappy face and I give her a "WTF?!" face... but she just drives off like a jackass.

If I can see the four way, I always modulate my speed so I either stop first or after whoever is also approaching.

In the event of a tie, they'll either go or they'll look at me. If they look at me, I go.

I have no idea what the book says. lol

I tend to tell people to go, but they sometimes just SIT THERE even though they can see me pointing my fingers for them to fucking go across. They're god damn morons. "HERP A DERP. NO U. NO. GO. SRSLY." So I'll finally go after like 10 seconds of this bullshit and then what do they do, "OH? GO? OK LET'S GET IN A FATAL CAR CRASH. WEEEEEEE"

Then they give me a WTF look. Fucking imbeciles.
