I don't really hate them, but you gotta toss out that click bait chum. Heehee
But sometimes they really do annoy me. Not often fortunately. I guess part of my disdain comes from the fact that for years I thought they were owls, in which case I loved their call.
But they're NOT owls are they? Oh no. They just like f'ing with nubes like moi who've never heard any live owls.
Little f'ers. That's what they are.
I confess and gladly. Yes, I hate Mourning Doves.
I grew up in Los Angeles and they were there. It's their cooing, particularly in the early morning. It gets annoying.
I left Los Angeles in my late 20's, never to return except for brief visits. I'm now in the Bay Area, and I don't recall them here EXCEPT THE LAST FEW YEARS! My theory is that global warming has expanded their habitat to include this area. It's warmer here than it used to be. Now, I have not noticed that annoying cooing recently. Last year or two, I guess, I certainly did. Maybe they aren't common here and you only hear them if they (one or two?) establish a presence near you. It's a theory. I don't expect that very distinctive cooing pattern not to return.
Edit: OK, I'd only read the OP when I posted the above. Scrolling down a bit I found the 2:24 video on their calls. It's Sound #1, you might think it's cool or something but when you've heard it 1000 times you might not. Or 5000 times, definitely not. And it never varies. They just hang out and keep doing it, seems as though for birds they are extremely sedentary. The Sound #1 cooing is continuous, quite monotonous and worst of all, distracting.
