Who here does NOT have a cellphone?

I am beginning to suspect that I am in the minority of people who do not currently (and/or constantly, it seems) use a cellphone. For one thing, it's a lot more expensive here in Japan -- $40/month gets you about 100 minutes or so with DoCoMo, the NTT company. Secondly, I just don't care to be in touch 24/7. It's also convenient that I cannot be reached should I be called for a pseudo-emergency at work (military) because most of the time those are non-issues.

How many non-cell junkies are there?

For the record, I used to have one when we were in Atlanta. It was useful but not essential.

Cell phones can definately be annoying, people calling you all the time when you can't talk etc. However, they can also be very convienient. I think the pros outweigh the cons, UNLESS you had like a hundred people calling you all day long maybe.

I wouldn't consider myself a cell phone junkie ... but I could never give up the convenience of having a cell phone.

I have a cell phone, but talk on it less than a half an hour a month. I'll usually surf the web or play a game on it. For $30 a month I get 300 minutes and a megabyte of web, life is good. I love my little T300

I don't have a cell phone. I have no need for one. I won't even consider it until I get a car.

Nobody calls me on my home phone so why would I need a cell phone?

Cell phones are fvcking annoying.

Telephones are like the iron fist of communication.
"Ring Ring" means that I have to drop what I'm doing to answer the fvcking phone... that is of course if you're not into just letting it ring (and I'm not only talking about cell phones here) ..
so yeah, I basically tell people that if they want to get in touch with me, they should email me.
If it's an emergency, well then, phone me .. or email me, you'd be surprised how often I check my mail.

What's the poing of having a phone if you're not going to update every three to five months? HELLO? GSM makes it easy with their SIM cards

I have never owned a cell phone nor do I have any short term plans to. The only time I've possessed a pager was when my work required it.

I consider these infernal devices intrusions in my personal life and ability to not be found when I don't want to be found. If I want to talk to you, I'll call you. If I haven't called you, well...

I did, however, like the thought of my girlfriend (when I had one) and my parents having a cell phone in case of a mechanical failure on the highway or emergency. My parents used to travel a lot in a motor home, so my sister and I bought them a cell phone with national roaming coverage.

But me personally? Emm...no.

I have one for two main reasons:

1) If I should ever break down, be in an emergency situation, etc. I can contact someone and
2) No additional long distance charges! Having moved away from my family, lot of college friends, and my g/f for the time being, I like being able to call and talk as long as I want after 9 and on weekends without having to worry about long distance charges. Much nicer this way and my wallet appreciates it to.

I personally don't have a cell phone, and have no plans for one either. My wife on the other hand started a small business and travels a lot. She got a cell phone for emergencies on her 14 hour driving trips and for her clients to call her. It has the added benefit that her calls to her mom are local on the cell phone but are 17 cents per minute on the regular phone (note: this is an in state call, so those 5 cent per minute plans don't apply, and we live in the most expensive state for in state calls, Nebraska). So basically her cell phone is free since we no longer pay $40 a month for her to call her mom.

Sure, when we're somewhere that isn't as crowded as Japan, I'll insist that my wife have one for the roadside emergency stuff.

I do, however, think the idea of a cellphone with a camera is pretty cool. It brings out the gadget freak in me.

I was. Let me just say I had a rough night. But hey, at least I finally let loose and reamed her out. Maybe now she will leave me alone.

Cell phones rule. I basically use mine as a "home phone" now... when someone asks for my number, unless it's long distance, I usually give out the cell # first. I try not to be one of those annoying types who sits there and blabs aloud, i try to keep it to myself. I'm a good cell phone owner!
