I love that leash comparison because for some reason a lot of people who I've talked to who don't want a cell phone for this reason don't seem to understand that you don't have to answer it or you could just turn it off if you want to be left alone.

And for most phones out there, you can turn off the ringer all together if you don't want to listen to it.

You are forgetting one thing: the people trying to get ahold of you. If they know you are out, and they know you have your cell phone, and you don't answer it - then you really anger your friends/family/work. In my experience it is better that they know you are unreachable, than to have them think you are refusing their calls.

I don't. haven't seen a need for one yet. Wifey has one but I opted not to get one. I only have to talk to her when i feel like it that way.

i've got one and pretty much use it in place of my normal phone since most of the calls i make are long distance. i leave it on vibrate all the time and if i don't feel like talking to someone, i just don't answer it.

I have one but according to the phone I've used it about 30 minutes total since I got it in September. I'm thinking I should just get the 20$ plan.

What's worrisome is that I was reading an article that stated that the pay phone business is tanking everywhere, predictably because of cellphone usage. So, at a certain point, it may be a necessary evil to have one in case you need to make a phone call on the road. I knew before reading that article that they were hurting because I have fond memories of hunting for a payphone in several places in Nashville, Atlanta, and San Angelo (TX).

I have one, but really only use it when necessary. I travel occasionally for work and it is much more convenient phoning the office on the cell. I am not one of these people that use the cell on the road, in the mall, supermarket, movie, crapper etc. My phone is kept turned off, no one has the number (except my wife) and that's it.

heh exactly what i believe, but when i started driving i got a cellphone, its mainly used for family to ask where the heck i am, or used when i meetup with my friends...Im not much of a phone person, i hate talking on phones!

Here. Had a cellphone (with some special deals from the company => I ended up paying like $5 a month for my cellphone+plan+usage).
Now I currently don't have one.

Might get one soon though if my relationship continues to flourish.

3 Cell Phones in my household, one for wife, because women now-days feel unloved/unconnected without a cell. 13 year old daughter has a pay as you go phone because she participates in many after school activities & it facilitates picking her up in a timely manner.

I have a cell phone after years of protest because after staring @ women's sanitary products in the grocery store for 15 minutes & realizing how truly clueless I am about my wife's preferences, I had an epiphany, why don't I get a cell phone?

I don't own a cell phone, no wristwatch, and ride a bike or take the bus to work (I have a car, but the parking & fuel is about 5X my monthly bus pass, and it take roughly the same amount of time to get to work by car, bike, or bus).

I've not got one either. I have a weird love-hate relationship with them. I hate cell phones and I always make fun of my friends who have the but I am borrowing them incessantly.
