You are forgetting one thing: the people trying to get ahold of you. If they know you are out, and they know you have your cell phone, and you don't answer it - then you really anger your friends/family/work. In my experience it is better that they know you are unreachable, than to have them think you are refusing their calls.I love that leash comparison because for some reason a lot of people who I've talked to who don't want a cell phone for this reason don't seem to understand that you don't have to answer it or you could just turn it off if you want to be left alone.
And for most phones out there, you can turn off the ringer all together if you don't want to listen to it.
