i have been thinking of getting one but dont know if i should get a dog a cat or even a bird(though im alleric to birds). i live in a small apartment alone with my friend who doesnt like cats but i think they may be the best choice being so independant. plus my landlord doesnt allow dogs. i may need to move if i want a pet?

Thanks in advance.

Your post makes no sense.

You want a bird, but you're allergic to them.

You live in an apartment alone, but not actually alone.

Your room mate is allergic to cats, but fuck him though, right?

Your landlord won't allow dogs.

I think, you sir, are fucked.

You're probably too stupid to care for a pet, anyway.

My 2 kittiots are my best friends. Great company, and they're amusing.

I've had birds, and they can be loud. When you into the larger/smarter birds, they're very demanding of attention, and can develop psychological problems if lonely.

Hermit crabs are nice, but require more care than you're led to believe from the oceanside sellers. They'll last a very long time with good care, and some luck.

Hamsters rock, but die fast.

Fish look nice, but are kind of boring, and cleaning tanks gets old after awhile.

Get a chinchilla. They're "exotic" and can be considered either higher or lower maintenance than dogs and cats.

You fill a dish with foot and a bottle with water, and they're good to go for days (rather than putting food down at specific times each day like you would for certain types of dogs, like labs). Their cage needs regular cleaning (every week or two), and they need a regular dust bath (put volcanic dust in a container and let them go to town - it's fun to watch). Other than that, give it stuff to chew on (chinchilla-approved wooden blocks and sticks), occasional dried fruit treats, and play with it from time to time.

The biggest problem I've had with mine is dust from the dust bath ending up airborne and settling around the room (I have to dust like 3x as much as other people), and cage cleaning can get annoying. They're highly intelligent for rodents, though; in a big open room, mine will race around like a crazy fool, and then jump in my lap to cuddle. They'll bark at you if they need something, greet you with certain calls, and all around can be very friendly.

Ours cost roughly $175, plus $75 for the cage and another $50 worth of food, dust, chew blocks, bedding, etc. If taken care of, they can live up to 10+ years old.

Snake. Non-allergenic, easy to care for, can go away for the weekend without worrying.
