It is worth what you make up it. For upper management though it is often a requirement.
Oh and if you are already working see where they think its okay to get it from.

I have a three friends with MBAs from a state university, 2 are making money. Though there's one, who is turning 32 in a couple months and still trying to make it as a musician, playing acoustic guitars at coffee shops and open mic nights.

Think Beck in 1990, but without that much talent.

My wife has one from a local private schol. She ain't flippin' burgers but never used it either.

Unless you have guaranteed employment post-MBA or have an employer that is willing to foot the bill; I wouldn't recommend it right now (unless you have connections and admittance to a top tier school).

For entry level, Its only worth if you get it from a good school, one who would help you get an internship and finally a job. For ppl who already have a job, it depends on how much your organization and you department in particular recognizes it.

One person I know was an Analyst, went to UT Austin and now is a manager (was in Fianace Dept)
Another guy getting EMBA so that he can become a director. (IT guys)

Have thought and am still considering getting one, but I just decided to go get my Masters of Engineering instead. Only $10k, immediately useful since I'm only 2 years removed from undergrad, and still under-employed.

I'll go for it when I actually get high enough that management is actually a possibility for me.

I have my MBA from MIT Sloan. I did learn a lot and make great connections while there. I graduated last year so it is too early to tell if it will pay dividends monetarily, but I would say it is worth the connections alone. I could go on for hours, but I will say that if you are considering it go to the school and talk to students there. You can find out if getting an MBA is right for you and if that school is right for you. Every school has a very different feel. Also, go to http://forums.businessweek.com/n/pf...1&listMode=13&nav=messages&webtag=bw-bschools for some more research. Don't let all the pretentious people on those boards get to you though!

whether it's worth it depends on what jobs you're looking at or career track. if you can get it on the cheap, i'd say there is no reason not to do it. a master's can only help. if you have to pay through the nose for it, be damn sure you know it's going to help you. i fall into the prior category. got it mostly paid for by company, it has been helpful in the short term and i have the feeling will be helpful later on as a requirement checkbox. Or it might not be. it's already been a +NPV value to me so far so i have no complaints.

We have a couple MBAs at our company. They are in customer service. I guess same as flipping burgers.

I know 4 people who have obtained MBAs in the past 5 or 6 years. Currently, none of them have advanced in their careers and in fact, a couple have been demoted -- and this was in a company and department that valued the MBA. Fortunately for those two, the company paid 100% of the cost of the degree so their only investment was time.

Personally, I find it of questionable value but even still, I have considered it but just can't make the committment right now. If you have the opportunity for your employer to pay for it, do it. It can't hurt.

Currently working my MBA MIS at a local, pretty well regarded private college. My work is paying for roughly 66% of it. I graduated with a BSBA MIS. I'm about 15 hours in and should be done this time next year. I am not guaranteed any higher position by getting it, but some of the positions in my company require a MBA to be qualified.

For me, I just got bored after being out of school for 4 years and working. I'd get off at 4 and watch TV. My work isn't that mentally stimulating that often and felt like I needed something more. When I looked into the tuition assistance at work I figured it was worth the effort. I'm currently taking 9 hours and while working 40+ hours fulltime it's pretty difficult.

I think the key to a MBA is to be in the workforce for a few years and not go straight into it after your bachelors. I've gained so much experience and I am more dedicated to my classes than I ever was while working on my undergraduate.

Nice tags loser. Yet, I'm one with the MBA and you're the one that needs to ask without providing any information on your job, education, etc.

Again, a MBA is not going to get you beyond the French Fry station at McDonalds.
