I'm curious as to what your experiences have been like--It seems like it's as tough today as it has been in as long as I can remember for most people I know, and being inexperienced without many skills probably doesn't help the cause any either..

I graduated officially in June (out of school by May 1). Still looking and only had one interview (thus far) last week to do something I really want. The company was desperate and I would have had the job if I just got my drivers license earlier. I also would have needed a car (family vehicle is beyond beater as in 'unsafe' for 60Kmh roads), but if I got the job guarantee, could have got one. So, here we are, one week later, still no job.

To be fair, I only started looking at the end of July cause I had different plans. Now, I think I'm going to try my luck at office admin (beaucoup experience there:roll or *gasp* seasonal retail. I can't sit infront of this damn computer anymore...

Oh, and I have a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Want to go into surveying. Looked into doing college for that, but it looks like you can get into it by just being the party chief's bitch for a year. May as well get payed to learn.

Edit 1: Clarified interview thing.

Edit 2: Addition.

And maybe mention what major you're in. I'm in a mechanical engineering program, and the word is that a fair number of students receive job offers before graduating.

Been looking since march, graduated this august. Only have gotten 1 interview. The job market sucks. I have a M.S. and B.S. Chemical engineering degrees with high honors and 3 years coop experience, 2 years research.

As far as engineering goes its definitely an employee's market. None of my friends have had any trouble finding decent, well paying jobs (like mid 50s for a new grad) in their field, even those with little practical experience. For those who are good at what they do, its even easier and the challenge isn't so much finding a job, but finding a job that suits you very well.

I started this job I am in almost 3 weeks ago.

It wasn't easy to find, but it absolutely doesn't even compare to how hard it was to find work after the dotcom burst and I managed back then as well.

It has been a PITA. I've been looking since June basically. Finally hired today actually. Took a job that pays way less than it would in Texas (in MO now). It's only for a year though.

A friend of mine graduated from Chem Eng with less experience. When he finally decided to start looking for work, it took him about 2 weeks to get a job in the Tar Sands. When he quit several months later and moved back to Toronto, it took him about 3 weeks to find a job as a process engineer.

I have a friend in that same city who graduated with a B.S. in chem eng. Couldn't find a job and decided to go get his M.S. the following December. Comes down to luck and the applicant I guess. I've ruled out masters cause I simply refuse to go back to school right now. I can do it, but now that I have a choice, I just plain don't want to. That and I'm not even sure if I want to spend the rest of my life (or a good portion of it) working in my field.

I've been out of work for a while now, and my only experience of any value is in marketing, which i have no interest in going back into. it's been tough.

The worst thing about being without a job and having trouble finding one, is the family and friends constantly asking you how it's going. ugh. makes me not wanna go to get togethers at all. I'm tired of the question.

I thought about delaying my graduation until May 2008.. I am so glad I decided to leave early. I didn't know the economy is going to suck this badly

I had 5 offers before I graduated, and 9 months after got another offer over 50% higher than the one I took.

No complaints here.
