I believe it's still in production, don't think it has a concrete release date yet, however.

Meh. HL was ok but Lambda Core really sucked and a few other parts were on the boring side. It's a good game but overrated by quite a bit. Unlike most people here, I think that Xen was one of the better parts of the game.

Yes, I agree, it's tough to replay now. I miss the days when it was new and I mapped for it.

Graphics whore. Half-Life is still a beautiful game.

Installed it again and played it through just a few months ago. Great game. Counter-Life mod ftw.

I restarted it tonight, some parts still do look quite nice as a still.

I wasn't to fond of half life. It just went on and on and got boring. It was kind of mediocre if you ask me. But still a good game. I thought Quake 2 kicked it's butt

I loved half life 2 though. Great game.

I still fire up HL1 from time to time and replay my fav saved games:
- The two levels stalked by the female assassins... Apprehension and Lambda Core iirc... great fun finding different ways of taking them out before they even notice you.
- Being chased by the Gargantua from the basement parking lot to the outdoor area, leaping up to safety, quickly targeting the spot where it'll emerge, then bringing in the air strike... cheap thrill...

To be honest though I didn't find HL1 to be all that immersive, it's more like a very long game (bearing in mind my slow pace) with a few memorable moments.

hl1 deathmatch is still one of the best multiplayer FPS in my opinion.. Single player, when it was fresh, was also more exciting than say, hl2 imo.

Honestly I enjoyed mapping for it better, too. It was simpler and I liked Hammer better back then. And it was fun because it was easy to create new areas that resembled areas from the game. If you were good at it, it was almost like giving yourself more single player game to play.

The point of this is, not so much to say that HL1 was better than HL2, but just to say that the themes and ideas in HL1 ARE what defined Half-Life, and it's upsetting that they strayed away from all that with HL2. OpFor and Blue Shift still retained the themes of the original game.

it was ok for its time. but to play through again? naw, i've already expereinced it, and a second time through i'd see all the faults and fustrations. forget that.

I sure do, HL2 fell WAY short of the original.
As for Xen, I kinda liked it at first, but it dragged along too much, all of it looked the same, so there was no real sense of advancement.

I miss CS beta 5.2 too for that matter, it started sucking right about 6.5, and all the 1.x versions have sucked more and more.

You'll definitely see those here and there, but overall it's still very fun and incredibly immersive, even with 8-year-old graphics.

I honestly never even finished Half-Life 1. I played it for awhile but got bored and didn't complete it, and moved on to TFC and Counter-Strike when that came out.

When Half-Life 2 came out I got it right away and played it straight through and loved it. I went back and beat it on hard difficulty not long after. Since I got the edition that came with Valve's back catalog of games, I installed Half-Life: Source and started a game but didn't get very far and stopped playing. For me, Half-Life 2 was much better than the original. I like the story better, the graphics, the guns, and characters, the maps... pretty much everything.

graphics definately arent important to me. i still find myself enjoying a run through doom2 every few months, even though ive already beaten it about 10,000 times. i think HL1 was without a doubt the best FPS game ever made, and i wish a new game would come out that would be up to its level.

Nah, Doom 1 still wins, if nothing else on the basis of being the first "proper" 3D shooter.
Yeah, I played Wolf as well, and while it was cool, it was still lacking something that Doom had.

Anyone remember the feeling as you came to the last level of episode 2? The Tower of Babel.
You heard that big roar and wondered wtf was making those sounds, then you said hello to Mr Cyberdemon, damn that was ****** awesome

I remember when I finished it long ago, that I sat there and thought: Wow! That was a great game!

It made me feel like I played a movie with its story and all.

Of course I had just got my first "modern" computer in the past year since having a Commodore 64 as a child heh.

I miss the feeling I had. I haven't felt it since. HL2 felt ok.

I loved TFC. I played it all the time. I was a great sniper and demo man.

I miss it, too, bud. HL2 could've been the same way, but I think completely diverting from the original story ruined it. HL1 was not meant to be a story of worldwide proportions. It was all contained within Black Mesa and that's what made it so great.

If a future episode ever returns Gordon to the original location, I might just sh!t myself.

Multiplayer, yes, but it was boring as hell in single player

you likley WONT feel that way again no matter the game unless somebody comes out witha whol enew genre of games
those were first experiences. your first "real" FPS.. you wont be wowed like in Doom when you see the CyberDemon, no matter how cool an end boss in HL3 or Doom 4 or whatver looks like because no matter what it will just be rehash of somethign you saw already... just prettier gfx or whatever. It will be a "been-there-done-that" feeling from here on out.

1st time sex is always the best isn't it? (generally speaking)
