Who here personally knows someone who is openly gay?

My girlfriend's first college room mate was openly gay. Actually she's transgendered, meaning she considered herself to be a man. She changed her name from Mary to Jake. Mary...err Jake never shaved her/his legs or arms and was diagnosed with gynocomastia, which Jake one day hopes to be rid of. Jake was also clinically depressed and suicidal at some points.

She was only room mates with my girlfriend for a month. My girl's parents said it was inappropriate for a person who lived their life as a male to be in a room with a female, and I'm inclined to agree. Also, I wasn't happy that my girlfriend might have one day come home to find a carcass in the room. The college told my girl if she wasn't happy with the situation she could move out, but Jake opted to move out as my girlfriend had been in that room first. After that incident all was right in the world...or was it?

Who cares... it isn't that they are totally different from everyone else. They are people, too. Don't treat them differently.

If you are Christian, treat them better.

My wife's half-brother (half-brother-in-law?) and his partner are openly homosexual. I have never heard anyone verbally destroy a "flamer" better than those two guys.

They shouldn't be treated differently for unjust reasons, but if it comes to sensitive situations ie showering with heterosexual people it may seem that as though they're showering with the opposite sex. This isn't assuming a gay person will rape the straight person or anything like that, but that it could violate heterosexual people's sense of security and comfort. In cases such as this homosexuals should be treated differently.

being "openly gay" is a cry for acceptance, the tattoos & piercing is just another part of the drama.
The sexual preference is accepted, period. The constant "look at me" circus act is what causes me to question the real intent of her lifestyle.

oddly enough i dont know anyone who is, and i say oddly because it doesnt seem to be such a big deal nowadays to proclaim openly that you are...so i would have figured id have encountered a gay person by now but i havent

i dont know anyone that has come out at work, or any of my freinds relatives etc....

I know three people who are and one is a friend of mine too. I know he is gay and he knows I am straight and it's not a problem. He is an extremely intelligent productive individual.I rather hang with a hard working gay person then a straight person who is lazy and on welfare any day.
