That's way too small imo. I'm not even close to considering 4k atm.

I got one. There is nothing to watch in 4k though, nothing. Probably should have purchased a 75in 1080p instead of a 65in 4k. I have the Samsung 65in 8550.

Considering that there isn't any 4k content out there yet,, how does the set handle the regular HD? As for the small screen,,, the room I want to put the tv in is small. If I go to a larger size it would be like sitting 4 feet away from a regular movie theater screen. I'd only see the middle. LOL
Seriously, the example is something to use as a start point and for the price, etc.

It's supposed to be the same quality as the Samsung 7150 when handling 1080p, from what I have read in reviews. Some owners say that the picture quality is better but I don't see the difference. Also, the 8550 handles 720p horribly. It looks blurry. Many YouTube music videos and movies from google play are 720p. It's blurry.

Netflix, Amazon, M-go, Ultraflix have 4k content. Not a large selection. Some of it is more detailed but nothing that made me go wow. The only thing I've seen so far that looked really good and gave me a wow factor was The Blacklist on Netflix.

I have a Samsung 50inch HU8550. Still don't buy a tv now just for 4k. If you NEED a tv and there isn't much price difference between a 1080p tv and a 4k tv then go ahead and grab it. Unless you sit really close to the tv 40inch is too small.

I'd wait until 4K TVs support 60hz with HDMI 2.0, and there's more content. There's some streaming content right now but not enough to really justify the price. 4K today is like the early days of HDTV. Better to wait for the prices to drop and there's more to watch.

The price of the tv I mentioned is what got me started here.
And. as others have posted, there is a lack of content. It'll be a long time before the networks and local outlets, etc. want to spend money to upgrade for 4k. As for screen size,,, the size of my room and furniture placement dictates the screen size of the tv. But, when a 60 inch tv dominates the room the wife will give me a choice. Neither one is good!!!! LOLOL

My dad is in the same situation. Every time he comes over I want to hide my big TVs just so he doesn't get jealous that he can't have one. And all because of an entertainment center that was more expensive than my two big tvs combined.

The price of 4k televisions are dropping fast. In 2014 there were some sub 1500$ tvs with 4k capabilities. In 2015, the prices for 4k will be extremely good, mainstream even. 2016 will probably be 4k standard for all TVs.

If you can wait, next year's new expensive tech will not be 4k. It will be quantum dots, most likely priced in high end models only at 2,000$ and up. Seems like most manufacturers are pushing it next year. It'll be the new expensive tech for the next few years just like how 4k is now. Quantum dots add larger viewing angles without losing color and the colors are suppose to be more vivid.

lol, I love entertainment centers like that purely for this reason. They always get in the way and are super restrictive, especially the older ones that are designed for 4:3 TVs and are now way too tall and not wide enough.

It reminds you how small CRTs were. We remember the fat, we forget the small.

Best Buy says the average screen size for a TV currently is under 40 inches, which has been a pretty stable number for a few years. That is larger than all but the largest non-projector CRT televisions.

Both combined with the right content should be nice. (as long as there is enough content lol)

And the standards aren't finalized I believe, so I'm primarily waiting on that too.

Only place 4k makes sense right now is as a PC monitor because the PC can render 4k desktop or games. Otherwise, the tech is too young.

I agree with this. You would be better off getting a larger 1080p set than to buy this 4k set.

Do you have a link for this? Better viewing angles on 4K sets would be welcome.

Nevermind, it was answered later in the thread.

As for the original question, I have a 4K set. A 70" Vizio P series. I am going to return it I think.

The viewing angles are terrible. Sitting toward the edge of the TV, and looking towards the center colors are washed out, and the contrast and brightness get weird. Even sitting straight on, you can detect subtle color differences between the center and the outer edges.

My eight year old DLP has better viewing angles and consistent color/brightness/contrast across the entire screen.

I am not sure if I want to bring it back up from the basement, or go through the hassle of buying, and potentially returning a couple of more 4K sets. I just don't think these new LED 4K sets are worth the money that is being asked. Reading about them, each one is a compromise and has its own low points.

I want an IPS panel and local dimming.

Vizio P Series sometimes has some sets with uniformity issues. You may have one of those sets.
This is why I did NOT pick it up this year. I think the spec sheet is great, the reviews on it are fantastic, but like you said, each set has a compromise, and QC is hard to do especially with a new line as feature packed as the P Series is for Vizio.

A number of people had your issues though on avsforum, and had to exchange sets to fix them.

Uniformity issue was the largest issue I didn't want to pick the set up. I didn't want to pick it up, play for a week or two, then actually start to get critical and realize it. Especially since getting it back to a store isn't the easiest of tasks.
