Congrats on the purchase!

Thanks. I think. I'm not trying to be snarky. I am just having my usual weird reaction to a big tech purchase. I get all excited the first day I have it, and then I am on the lookout for whether I could have gotten a better deal. It is almost as though I enjoy the search more than the actual purchase. Weird.

I do the same thing, even sometimes on smaller tech purchases. I think we are overcompensating for all those people who just buy something because they have heard of the brand before (in a commercial duh).

That is a good set though, with lots of future potential. From what I understand it can be upgraded, which is huge.

And 4K is more useful than I thought. I mean, not for video- every 4k video I have found is pretty unimpressive and I have pretty much every major TV maker's demo material thanks to a certain website that congregates it. Most of it is just time lapsed photos though. But holy geez it is good for text. I have a screensaver that is an RSS feed for mine, and I swear I have gotten most of my national news recently reading that while doing something else (like vacuuming). The text just looks so clear, even across a room!

Or I have another screensaver that is our recent photos. Those are so clear and amazing, it is like the 21st century version of the dreaded post-vacation projection machine. I recommend trying new stuff on there.

Yeah the upgradeability is ultimately what pushed me to buy the Samsung over the comparable Sony and LG models. The more I think about it, Samsung TV's that come with or support their "oneconnect" box are basically lightweight PC's with a huge 4k monitor attached. The panel itself only has two ports, one for power, the other for the proprietary connector to a oneconnect box. All of the "brains" of the TV are in the oneconnect box, which can be replaced/upgraded over time. Pretty much alleviates the fear of the TV becoming outdated codec/connections wise.

Another HUGE benefit to me is that the smart remote replaced 4 other remotes that I was previously using to control my setup. It controls my tv, cable box, sound bar (a sony ST5) easily. Only thing it won't control (yet) is my PS4. That is not really a big deal though.

Having watched a 50" plasma for a long time now, I can say that moving to a 65" display is a HUGE jump. And surprisingly I am not disappointed with the picture quality at all. In some ways the PQ for the Samsung is a bit worse than my old panny (which was a darn good set), but in some ways it is a LOT better.

That was a smart move by them, it really made early adopting not a negative like it normally is. By the time we actually get 4K Blu Rays with impressive content you dump the old connects and get some new ones. I wish more consumer electronics were upgradeable like that.

I'm gonna wait for HDCP 2.2 TVs with 4:4:4 Chroma. No point buying a "4K TV" that's locked out of 4K Blu Ray just to play PC games with it, IMO. That's what a 4K monitor is for.

I didnt have a tv so I was mainly looking at 4k. I took a usb drive with photos from my dslr that really had an extreme of colors to them. Plugged it into the 4k tvs, 1080p tvs and every size that they had available. The 4k was noticeably better and I got the biggest 4k that i could afford. For photo viewing its much better very clear and crisp. However I would recommend most people to wait until you can get 4k at 60fps min.

Agreed in general. The UH9000 already supports 4:4:4 and many reports state that Samsung has indicated that it will get HDCP 2.2 with the 2015 oneconnect box . . . that is why I decided to pull the trigger now, rather than wait.HDR (the other "major" feature of CES 2015 TV's doesn't matter too much to me, but I would be surprised if the HU9000 would not get it as well with the new evolution box.

I was under the impression that HDR requires a new panel also. Not sure though.
