If anyone's played both the sequel and the original (and somewhat remember the first game), would you take a minute to comment on how level design compares between the two?
So it's only available on Origin or retail?
Can anyone who bought it on Origin comment on the service?
EDIT: N/M I see it's on Direct2Drive as well, but doesn't have the bonus content or the original game like Origin does.
You PC gamers that bitch about EVERY game that comes out need to find a new hobby...
Dumb question I am sure...but my daughter wants to play too, can I install it on a second PC or not?
I don't have to play it to know it doesn't play fine or look acceptable with a frame rate cap for me. If you don't notice it, then more power to you. Besides, the game does look like it's rather fun, completely old school gameplay as far as I saw. I'd just rather not support a developer so lazy they can't take literally 10 seconds to change 1 line in the UE3 INI for the PC version.
IT PLAYS FINE!

Anomaly1964 makes a great point
What's wrong with it being on Steam? I could understand if you complained if the game was only on Steam, as that would be problematic for users like Apoppin, but it being on Steam as well just provides another option. I could literally remote into my desktop and have it download it right now.
I like how Anubis didn't respond to this. I honestly don't understand how he could hate Steam so much that he wouldn't even want a game on the system for others to buy even if he didn't have to get it that way. It shows either some deep seated irrational hatred or potentially Steam is some sort of threat to whatever he does (own a retail chain store? work for EA?)
Anyhow, I very rarely buy physical boxed games anymore. The last few I bought, I haven't even taken the time to install yet. And I don't plan to use Origin just yet. So Alice is off my list until it comes to Steam.
After messing around a bit I found some tweaks that can be made in the AliceEngine.ini found in \Documents\My Games\Alice Madness Returns\AliceGame\Config.
Even with Physx on high the config file shows "PhysXLevel=0". Changing this to "PhysXLevel=1" will enable GPU physx as confirmed by the overlay in the Nvidia control panel.
Setting "bSmoothFrameRate=FALSE" will remove the fps cap and turn off Frame Rate smoothing. Alternatively you can adjust "MaxSmoothedFrameRate=" to raise the fps cap and keep Frame Rate smoothing on. I'm not too sure what that implies.
Setting "AllowD3D10=" to TRUE cause the game to crash on start.

Well if it's not worth $60, that's fine, since it's only $50.i am into Alice, Madness Returns and i have to say i am a bit disappointed - after only about an hour (or two)
It is another dark - even darker - and much moodier game than the original. As in the original, Level Design is top notch and the artwork is spectacular including the period setting in London. It is an amazing world with apparently the same issues as in the original game - it is hack and slash. Original ideas are repeated over and over (and over) and over and there is no sense of progression. i got an upgrade on my weapon but don't notice any difference (other than it takes less hit points to dispatch an enemy).
Some great things .. and some boring things repeated over-and-over. Still there is that sense of exploration and i do want to see what is next. Looks like a '7' .. but that can change; a decent game but probably not worth $60.
Also there are some bugs. Like getting stuck. And some textures are pretty low res. i will press on. i need to explore more. It is weird-looking in S3D and i need to tweak settings further to see if it will work well instead of distract; i haven't tried 5760x1080 yet neither.
^_^
The more i play it, the more i like it. i haven't paid for a game in a long time - i get them for performance evaluations - in this case i am doing double duty reviewing Alice and DNF for AlienBabelTech - both game reviews and performance evaluations (including PhysX and S3D).Well if it's not worth $60, that's fine, since it's only $50.
for those running Crossfire turn it OFF you will see a massive performance increase
might work for SLI as well
