Is this for real? i am in Chapter 4 (the floating cards) with about 12 hours in (you get your moneys worth *and* your frustrations worth in this game), and there is no end to the variety of artwork and changing levels.

It reminds me of the old Ninetendo games. Almost exhausting.

How much longer is it?

This is a game that i love and hate. Fortunately, this game allows for some nice tweaking of the initi files or i would have never finished Chapter 2.

Same. Is it still nVidia cards that only have Phys-X?

Hardware.
But I noticed a long time ago games were installing software PhysX and letting the CPU do the work. It actually worked out just fine with my Phenom Black quad core.

Was only curious. Not planning to get a GeForce yet.

wow... the hair movements are awesome in Alice (PHysx turned to Max) Smoke is where it slows down . But what's even MORE awesome is the fact that the oil thingy's move pretty well based on Alice's movements! Now where is my Nude patch! I want my alice to be naked already, and show some camel toe!

In AliceGame.ini, look for the "MaxPhysicsSubsteps" setting under the [Engine.WorldInfo] section and lower it from the default of 10. I have mine set to 4 (what I've seen on other forums) and it seems to help quite a bit. I'm using a Phenom II 955 and Radeon 6950 and at first glance the Medium PhysX setting is pretty playable, though the pepper grinder smoke can still slow it down quite a bit. I haven't OC'd anything yet, so we'll see how that goes. I want to do a bit more testing at 3.8GHz (stock is 3.2GHz).

There's other little tweaks here:

chapter 3!!!!! Yes!!! god, getting the 3/4 of the painted rose in chapter 2 was a PIA even on EASY! wtf!
The Clockwork Bomb helps out a lot in the fighting challenges. Drop one while running away from the group of enemies and most of them will attack the bomb, allowing you to focus on one or a few of the enemies closer to you.

i didn't get one at that point! All I had was the stupid bunny bomb, and the knife, the horse stomper, and the pepper grinder... those stupid 3 headed baby things + the combo of the teapots proved to be the hardest opponent in the game! I easily had to redo that for at least 10 times! every other paint the rose challenges are cake... once I have the teapot!

The bunny bomb is the one I meant. It's not very strong, but most enemies will go after the bomb if they are closer to it than to Alice.

anytime save is basically cheating, you get auto respawned 10 feet before you died most times anyway
Some of us don't have time to waste just to master a precise sequence of moves. Controls are not that precise anyway and often you get sent back to replay the same boring section over and over until you get through,

If i wanted to play without anytime save (no AA, no PhysX or great details) i'd buy a stupid XBox. Alice is not a very good port to PC.

you playing it with the KB/Mouse?

its 1000x less frustraiting with a controller, i used my 360 one
Yes, i am a PC gamer.

The level design is spectacular, the artwork second to none .. but it does not disguise the fact that it is a crappy PC port with imprecise controls.

i am quitting Alice. i got the storyline already and the artwork does not make up for the frustration built-into the PC version; if i want to see the ending, i will look on YouTube. It is sadly a lesser version of American McGee's Alice - great for platformers who love jumping and puzzles (and the puzzles are crap; they even repeat the sequence to get them done in the least moves - and don't get me started on that Nintendo 2D rip off in the Japanese Torture paintings).

verdict on this game?
For me it is a spectacular-looking game with great level design and superb artwork that makes you want to see what is around the next corner. The enemies are varied and when they are in a mob, their multiple attacks are difficult as you need to change weapons quickly and accurately to focus on each enemy's weakness. Lots of stuff is hidden (like nests that respawn enemies and must be eliminated) and you might find yourself replaying a few bits over again. Frustration level can be high - much like the old Nintendo games; there is even a 2D side scrolling mini-game)

If you have a capable Nvidia card, the PhysX effects are great on maximum. It is a good looking game but only fair for S3D (3D Vision) as some of the objects render at incorrect depths and jumping is a PitA that got me switching it off (unlike with DNF where you could target even more accurately in S3D).

As to to controls, i guess the best advice is to play with an Xbox 360 controller; PC KB+Mouse is rather imprecise and without anytime save it is an exercise in frustration.

Overall for me, Alice is a 6/10 - i won't finish it (although i could see someone who loves puzzle and repetitive jumping platform (hack and slash) games, it would be an 8/10)
