What I've always found is that Abit has boards with more features, while Asus makes more stable boards. I've had several of each and that's what I've found to usually be the case. But both are very close to each other and are far above other motherboard companies.

I personally went with the Abit KT7A and it has always been much more stable than my old K7M from Asus. Has Asus change that much that everyoine is talking about them again. Well i can kinda see your point, its was not long ago that we almost saw the end of AMD until one last ditch effort to produce the Ultimate CHIP Called the Athlon! That saved there butts from going under forever. Amazing how that happenes!

Maybe ill give Asus a second look!

Although I've never owned an Abit personally, a friend of mine has. He had a few troubles with the boards he had and ended up RMAing them. He chose Asus and has been happy since. I've owned only Asus in my newer builds, but have not yet bothered to try Abit lately. I guess it was the K7TA that steered me from Abit.

I've found that by letting BIOS updates come out, the boards get better and I do not want to experience what I did with the Asus A7V again! I could barely use the board until BIOS revision 1005 came out. That was the mark for a new beginning for it. Runs like a champ, now!

I have owned both types of boards, but can't do apples to apples because they were different generations. What I can say is that I went with Abit BE6 when it first came out (because it was first to offer UDMA 66) 2 years ago and have never been able to get it running stably.

I have owned a few different ASUS boards and have never had stability problems. I recently went with an A7V133 and never even considered Abit's competing board. From the poor experiences I have had with Abit over the last 2 years, I think I am going to stay away from them for the next little while.

I would have to agree on the vote for ASUS!

I will probably get shot, but personally I havent had a problem with the 20+ abit mobos that I have had (I know, its an anomaly). As far as Asus, I have had almost 3 out of 8 have something go haywire with my components. So my vote goes to Abit, but from what I have read about others, I would say Asus.

The Honda of motherboards! hah! that is perfect! tweak something that will never be good. (rice rockets are uncool)

Asus must be the Nissan of motherboards then, no need to tweak something that is already great.

My vote goes for Asus hands down for me never ever having a problem with an Asus board!

'cept the ALI Aladdin V and TNT issue. (Not Asus' fault)

I have had a few of each. Older Abit boards (1999 & before) did not have that good of quality & lots had to be RMA'd back. With better quality control & designs now, Abit boards are some of the best. Asus is a much larger company & makes many more boards than Abit. Both make quality stable products now. Currently I'd have to give the nod over to abit right now (for overclocking & tweaking). Abit boards, BIOS, & manuals are much more user friendly than Asus boards. I believe all companies should use something simular to Abit's softmenu II & III for setting CPU speeds.

I have owned both( from Abit IT5H , BH, BX6 to Asus p55T2p4, P2b, P2BF , P3BF to the present Asus A7V and Abit KT7). I prefer the stability of Asus over the tweakability of Abit. IMO Abit boards are one step behind Asus boards when it comes to stability. I have less problems when building motherboards based on the Asus than the Abit.

I would have to say Asus. They always come up with innovative and stable solutions, they might not have all the features that other boards has (at least not right away), but they the essential and they're rock solid.

Bh6 vs P2-B BH6 wins easily.
Kt7a-raid vs A7V-133 ..again Kt7a-raid wins.

This is just my comparison of the boards that I have owned. On Abit boards, overclocking is easier. On A7V-133, even it is advertised as being able to do a "jumperfree" mode, I found that you can not change the voltage in this mode. For changing voltage you have mess around with jumpers. and if anybody has seen the awkword position of the voltage jumpers then they will understand why I like Abit board better.
Both the boards has been stable... and yes, I am using SBlive card.

I have had several Abit boards, all needed to be RMAed or had problems (like my PR5 that wouldn't take SDRAM despite having the slots.

At the moment i would choose Asus without hesitation (given the 2 choices)

are you serious man?? every single one of your abit boards had to go back?? Were they intel abit boards? Because every socket a abit board i recieved was great and worked great. Does asus have an easier way to overclock like abit does in there bois menu??

For me the choice was simple.
I needed an ISA slot, and I hate companies that force that stupid AMR socket.
What a waste of a potential slot space.
It all came down to slots for me.
Abit wins that choice easily.

I personally am going to be an ass and say Iwill. Asus and Abit have both lost their edge. Asus hands down makes higher quality boards in my opinion. Abit boards have RMA issues. I'm friends with the guys at Advanced Design Kentucky, who sell a LOT of gaming/overclocked systems and they now sewar by Iwill and Transcend. They cite higher RMA rates for Abit boards, lack of features and tweaking capability of Asus boards and a general downward shift in quality that has accompanied the mass manufacturing processes.

I used a KT7A in a friend's 1.3Gig tbird, few problems once bios was flashed, etc. etc. etc.

I personally own a FIC AZ11 and a ASUS A7V133. Go figure. Like them both but not with any kind of passion.
