It seems that most people here are working from home. Makes me wonder how many of you are still going into work? I actually started at a new job this week. My last day at my old job was the day that governor Newsom shut down California. Made me wonder what the hell I was doing changing jobs at this time.

So if you are still going into work chime in here and tell us state you are in.

I would be at work if I was able. I run heavy equipment so that's not a remote operation in most places. Currently out of work rehabbing a shoulder.
My wife works from home now and will for a while. She takes immunosuppressive drugs that put her at extreme risk from COVID-19.
One of the supervisors was idiotic enough to suggest coming back to the office with a mask because remote is " too slow"
He can fuck right off

unless you are on a "critical" job, all construction is shut down in WA. (The definition of critical is somewhat vague...and open for interpretation)

as for me...I'm AT home...and doing "honey do's." Since I'm retired...does that count as WFH?

We finally got setup to work from home about a week ago but the company kept bucking at the idea and finding excuses to not let us. Not so much my manager but more the company itself. Then they gave in, but they still require someone at the office 24/7 so the 12h shift stays at the office and 8h or any extra 12h (sometimes more than one on 12) works from home. The next schedule has been setup to prevent too much hauling of computers back and forth so whoever is on 12h shift stays for a while so no need to bring stuff back and forth.

I kinda splurged, and got myself 2 4k monitors so I only need to move my PC back and forth. I wanted to upgrade for a long time at home anyway so saw it as a good excuse to.

Only got to work 2 shifts from home so far myself, have to say it's pretty awesome. I wish this was the norm. I have 3 more shifts next week then I'll be going on 12h shifts. It's a catch 22 though, more 12h shifts you work the more time off you get. I'm also less of a risk as I have no kids so volunteered to be on mostly 12h nights.

The reasoning they gave to require someone there 24/7 was ridiculous too. They said in case the corporate network has issues they want someone to be at the office to confirm it's the network and not the VPN. Then when we all realized how ridiculous that is, they changed their tune, and said they require at least one person that is plugged into a building that has a generator installed by an electrician. Such a weird arbitrary requirement. If there's a big enough power outage to affect every single one of our homes then we can just have one person drive to the office and be there in like 5-10 minutes. When on night shift and we have to go for #2 there is no coverage for 15 minutes anyway. Boss tried to use that argument but the company would not take it.

They also don't allow managers to work from home so they are stuck staying in as well, so really when on day shift there's one of us in the office, and the boss. Boss stays mostly in his office though.

I'm still working at a machine shop. We do tooling for automotive and medical among other industries so are declared 'essential' by definition of the state.

There are only three of us in the shop, and it is a long building so we can work at a distance most of the day. I want to keep a cash flow but these next few weeks will be interesting. My boss might shut down for a few weeks.

My company has started a partial WFH schedule, along with an adjusted schedule - some WFH two days a week, others (like me) WFH three days a week, and others only work in the building three days a week (12 hour days). The intent is to have only about half of the employees in the building on any work day.

But next week I'll be working in the building an extra day, since I need it in order to catch up on some things. Things like that need to get approved ahead of time, but I can pretty much go in/out whenever I want.

I've got an official letter so I can travel to various places if need be but I've not needed to go anywhere yet. We've got a server installation soon to scale capacity so maybe then

Well, my gig is radio... I'm a volunteer DJ at a college radio station, KALX, Berkeley. We're not permitted on station premises as the whole campus is locked down. We're on the air, though. The station engineer has control from his home via internet connection. He's lining up programs, all prerecorded. Much of it is content from over the last few years. Some DJs are producing new content or editing their older shows. I plan to edit some of my shows, I have hundreds of recordings of my mostly ~3 hour shows... music of all kinds.

I'm still going in to work. Small town PA, small machine shop.
As far as i know only one of our customers has shut down their operations. I'm not sure what they make as they're pretty new to us & i haven't worked on anything of theirs.

We kind of split our shop in half so there's no more than 10 people per section & we try to stay separated as much as we can.

As of now there are only 5 confirmed cases in the county & none of them are hospitalized.

I go back to work Tuesday doing takeout. I don't know if they discovered the DFAC (dining facility) can't feed even just essential personnel or, if Trump has a hand in it. Apparently the Air Force can't live without me.

I'm an IT technician at a casino operator company here in Las Vegas. Our casinos are closed, but the company considers the technicians essential so we're still working. They only allow a certain number of people right now at the corporate office where we normally work so the other technicians are being sent out to the empty casinos to do busy work like OS upgrades on various systems at the casinos, etc..

Careful out there Magnus. I'm guessing you have some immune issues, and you're old :^P That would suck getting through cancer, and having your ass kicked by a virus.

Anyone wearing a mask at work?
I work in a machine shop & they bought some masks for us to wear if we want. Homemade cloth ones.
I'm really only around 5-6 people max on a daily basis. If everyone is at their work stations no one is within 20 feet of me though at times people walk past my area within 6-8 feet.
At this point i'm only putting the mask on if i leave my area or if someone comes over to talk with me.

Curious what others are doing now that the CDC says we should wear them around other people.

I retired in early March, so dont have to worry about it. Really glad I dont have to worry about whether to go in or not. OTOH, sitting at home and not even going out to a movie or to a restaurant is very strange. After my last day my wife and I went to happy hour at a packed restaurant. What a change in about a month.
I worked in a reasearch lab, so it would be impossible to do all the work from home (experimental animals to take care of, need to perform experiments/use complicated equipment, etc.) I could have probably worked one or two days per week from home to write reports, process data, etc, remotely. I think the lab is pretty well shut down now. I just got an e-mail from the PI, and she said the university is asking them to prepare online sessions for the fall semester.

Technically my business is considered essential (transportation) but we're literally doing 2-5 trips a day right now so the owner is running things from home with cell phone and I'm laid off.

The workers on the shop floor wear masks, but they are the surgical type of mask. I am management and have an N95 and kind of wear if when I am on the floor. Mainly just so show a support for them. I mean if they are wearing a mask we should too.
