I just upgraded a bit. Not just because of Crysis though... I had a dual core opty and a x1900xt. no slouches by any means but not enough for even close to 1920x1200 in most of the modern games. I picked up a Q6600, 4GB of RAM and a 8800GT. I got an eVGA because I will probably do a step up once the other cards come out.

I played the demo on a 2 year old system single core AMD 4000+ San Diego, 2GB Ram, ATI x1950pro GPU, at the medium settings with anti-aliasing turned off. AA 2X was impossible.

Even without the eye candy and etc, the game was completely playable and the graphics were not too bad considering my outdated set-up, way better then Far Cry.

For me upgrading would equal a new mobo, processor, gpu and ram which would be $$$$ for a $39 game...hard sell especially when there are zero benchmarks.

If I can play it and get good game play at decent settings then I'll be happy, great graphics doesn't always equal a great game IMHO.

No. There's nothing out that can play Crysis at 1680x1050 at Very High settings with 2XAA. Until there's a reasonably priced card out that can handle those settings I'll hold out.

My 7950GT 512MB is able to play most of the other new games out there at decent settings so I can't validate spending the $$ for anything less.

I think you're shooting too high. I think 1280x960 w/all DX10 features enabled and 2xaa will look amazing and should be be playable(30fps+) on any 8800 SLI setup with a decent cpu and fast memory. Bare in mind the final release will most likely play more efficiently then the demo as well.

Demo runs fine "just" under medium for my single core + 7600gt. Pretty smooth, know I'm not getting the best visuals, but they still ain't bad. Hope the retail really is more optimized. Still won't upgrade cause I'd have to do a near complete overhaul. Thank you S939 and DDR1.

I hear you there, not very many options with us 939 owners. 939 processors are drying up, best I could do is go dual core, but I'll have to see some benchmarks to see if that move will help? Only economical change that is...

Im running an E6600 @3.2, 4Gb Ram, raptor drive, and 8800GTS 640mb. With these specs I can not run in DX10 mode higher than 15FPS. This is ridiculous. Many have told me to buy another 8800 for sli and it will boost my fps in the 30's. Personally, I can not justify upgrading/Spending another 300+dollars to play a $40 game, when all other new games are running perfectly fine. Ill just have to wait for another year to go by before I consider my system "upgrade" worthy.

Or, you can actually listen to the makers of the game who said it'll be some time before hardware is available to play the game in all its glory.

Graphically no other DX10 title competes with Crysis.
I was never a Farcry fan but for many of us this is not about a videogame. This is about groundbreaking CGI. If you live for the cgi it's worth spending the money. For those of us coming from this perspective this is the type of event that occurs maybe once every four years. If you're merely interested in a pretty videogame then no it won't be worth it.
A year from now Crysis will look very good yet next week it will be astonishing.(If you get my meaning)

But will that resolution make the game look good on my monitor? The default res on my 20" is 1680x1050. If I can scale it and still have it look decent then maybe I can play at the highest settings when the next gen 8800GTS comes out. I guess we'll see.

I'll probably play Crysis in about 18 months or so when there's actually something out there that can run it in all it's glory. I held out for Far Cry until I could play it maxed and I guess I'll do the same this time. Like someone else said, my current setup runs just about everything else just fine so I see no reason to upgrade yet. I'm going to wait until the R700 cards next year. That's ATi's last chance though. If they don't show something good then I'm joining the green team. Besides even if I someone upgraded to the latest and greatest card out there it still wouldn't be able to handle Crysis maxed out.

I played the first few minutes of the game until I got to the PDA jammer and then gave up. With all medium settings 1280x1024 on a 22" LCD and some serious .cfg tweaks I was getting mid 40's on average. The first part of the level when it was dark I said to myself "hey, this looks pretty good. This ain't so bad". Then I went into one of the huts after disabling the PDA jammer and everything looked blurry and blocky with the sun fully up and able to actually see something. At that point I said "forget this shit. I think I'll wait". My next destination was add/remove and it was BYE BYE Crysis!!!

Nope. I'll try it with my current rig (in sig), and if it's not playable then w/e. Not going to upgrade again so soon just to play 1 new game.

Nope. I will upgrade to the DX 10.1 card of choice when I need to finally install my Vista Ultimate 64 when EVE Online's Vista client comes out sometime next year. Until then I'll run Crysis and Hellgate in DX9.

My rig is a e4300 @ 2.7ghz, 4 gig Giel DDR2, X1900GT, 160g 7200 8mb cache HD, Gigabyte P965 DS3, Acer 22" 1680x1050 fp

Upgraded to 8800GT, but not just for Crysis. I wanted to upgrade to a 8800GTS 640 over the summer, but that's when initial rumors about the next generation of possible GeForce 9000 series of cards came up. So I kept holding out, and holding out, and now here I am with a 8800GT. Damn happy I did hold out because during that time there was nothing I was playing that was running slow. WiC demo was released, and that didn't run great. Shortly after the COD4 demo and I couldn't run 1680x1050 with AA/AF with good frames. And then Crysis - I was getting about 20FPS at native resolution medium with no AA/AF. Right now I'm playing The Witcher, which isn't graphically amazing, but I did hit the upper 20s in the swamps running 8XAA. So Crysis or no Crysis, I was upgrading to the 8800GT regardless when I found out how well it performed and the price is was supposed to be (I didn't pay too much, $272 shipped and free ETQW). It wasn't until recently that my 7900GT (which was clocked at 665/900) started to show age.

No; I can't justify putting $1000 into a rapidly-depreciating computer system every year or two. (My last upgrade was this summer when Fry's was selling an A64 3000+ with motherboard combo for $49.99.)

I upgraded, not because of the game but just because my old system was almost 5 years old. Convienent for Crysis and other games though...

Upgraded From/To:
AMD 64 3200+ (754)/Intel Core 2 Duo E3750
ASUS K8V SE DELUXE/MSI P6N Diamond (680i & SB X|FI Onboard Sound)
BFG 6800GT OC 256MB/EVGA 8800GT KO 512MB
2 GB Corsair XMS @ 400/2 GB Crucial BallistiX PC8500 @ 1066

The new system averages 30+ with high settings in Crysis Demo.

I'll get some card in the next month or so, once the 3870 and new 8800GTS are out and the prices settle down. I'm not upgrading specifically for Crysis, but my X1900XTX is getting old and struggling with many recent games.

Although I'll probably still end up playing this game at 800x600 or something to get good framerates, considering how it performs. It's a good thing I have a CRT and can play around with the resolution.

Why do people consistently fail to report resolutions? There's a world of difference between running 30fps at 800x600 and getting that same rate at 1680x1050. I would think everyone would know this by now.
