Upper and lower ball joints for the Durango arrived. The more I look at it, the more I think I should just do all the bushings up front, basically do the whole front end. Will probably just watch it rain the rest of the day.

Nice 2002! I wish I had a lift.

I took them out of mine and never put them back. The centering rings do a good enough job holding them in position anyway.

Me too. This was my first time swapping rotors on this car (probably still original rotors). I had to drill out the screws on one corner. The others came out after bashing my impact driver with a hammer. By far the hardest part of the entire process, and the least important parts.

Yep. Taking out the rotor screws is just one of the many things everyone should do as soon as they purchase a car.

Replaced the rear pads and rotors on the '98 Accord yesterday, and bled the system as well. They seemed to be in pretty good shape really, but had begun making a strange 'groaning' sound while braking at lower speeds. I checked the service records and it had been 5 years so I decided to start with this easy task first.

I also had a small problem with one of the rotor screws, the head was fairly stripped but I was able to get it out eventually. One of the caliper bolts was a PITA too, it took me about 30 minutes to get out and I was afraid the torque was going to break it.

It was worth it though, the groaning is gone. And I went ahead and got a floor jack and jackstands for the job so that should make future work go a bit easier.

More info! Scored cylinder walls?

Sorry so long response work has been nuts..

Ya the 928s euro model we looked at was a decent 10 footer. The frame looked fine and the bodywork had been done about 10 years ago with mediocre results.

I found the right front quarter had been replaced and the car had been in an accident at one time. Then I find really low pressure in two cylinders and the car was going to need transmission work since it kept popping out of gear under acceleration.

I even for about 10 minutes thought about picking it up for me as a long term but once I put the costs together of engine rebuild, trans, and full frame off I ran like a little girl too..

Clean early 928s are getting really rare sadly.

Nothing very exciting in some time, just boring maintenance. But that's a good thing right?

I guess I can spice it up with a teaser money shot

7. And 1 gallon = 4 quarts not 5

Two 1 gallon jugs are $ <= 7 individual quart bottles and I can use the big jugs for old fluid storage and transport.

I usually get Castrol GTX, the big bottles for that are 5, so I'd assumed yours were fives also.

Do you find Royal Purple to be worth.. yeah, you must, otherwise you wouldn't buy it, would you.

Replacing front rotors on my RX-8. I warped the left front so bad that you see it run in and out about 1/4". It binds in the caliper, makes an ungodly noise.

Kids, always remember to properly torque your wheel lugs. Quick oversight (trying to get house to meet friends for beer) cost me $140 in new rotors.

Its oil change day for the '05 WRX. Also gotta rotate the tires and adjust the parking brake. If I feel really motivated I'll change the plugs too but we'll see......

I think my car was targeted by thieves recently while parked on the street overnight. This week the front driver, passenger and rear passenger windows are FUBAR. Motors work but regulators are obviously shot. This usually happens when someone tries to force the window down... grrrr...

I have three regulators on order. Fun times.

My daily driver is 17 years old this month.

I get the joy this weekend of cleaning the horribly corroded battery terminals in my Focus.
I shouldn't have let it get as bad as it is now. Going to have replace one of the connectors on the negative side because of how badly it was.

Very sad day---put winter wheels on all 3 cars today (mine. mywifes and my daughters car). Worked for a while trying to remove 3 bolts with broken off heads that hold the headlights in--no luck.

put the Mazda 3 interior lighting kit in my wife's new s GT hatchback this morning (after dropping off our newest cat for a spay).

Job was a PITA due to one bracket with a screw facing towards the engine compartment right above the pedals and with the steering column in the way of any ergonomic screwdrivers. Finally broke out my skinny handled phillips #2 and once I broke the torque holding it, it was just a slow process. Screw was about 4x longer than it had to be.

She loves the blue led lighting in this car + the happy guppy face.

Glad I bought it for her.

I sure was, not that i wanted to be. Rad started leaking in my truck, 3 broken fins due to previous owner being a complete IDIOT!!!!!!!

Previous owner had installed a B&M transmission cooler, which is good BUT he didnt use the included plastic mounting hardware that you are supposed to put through your rad to hold it. Instead he decided it would be a good idea to throw that plastic crap out and use bailing wire to attach the B&M cooler. Obviously running metal wire through your rad fins is not good so the bailing wire proceeded to cut through 3 fins on the rad i guess over the past however many years(bought truck 9 months ago) which just happened to end up with coolant pissing out in a solid stream into my fan and sprayed all over my engine and engine compartment. So here i am now with a brand new rad and hoses/thermostat installed in my truck, just what i wanted to be doing on a Saturday when its -2c out and i had to do it in my underground parking lot.

Dumb previous owners for the FAIL!!!!!

pro tip, spray them down with WD 40 every 3 months and they will stay nice and clean, WD 40 will push the water out of the connections and keep them from corroding.

Meh, just coat them in dielectric grease when you install it. Problem will never happen.

Anyway, did 5 minutes of "wrenching" today to verify the windshield squirter motor in our '05 WRX took a shit. Luckily its a cheap part.

On the topic of dielectric grease..

My z4 had a stumble in the mornings.. It almost felt like a miss, but would only happen 10-15 times over the period of a minute or so and would then go away. I got up this morning, removed all 6 coils and applied dielectric grease to all connectors and no more stutter!

Once I got done cleaning everything with baking soda and water it was a whole lot worse than I thought. I'm going to have to replace the entire negative terminal. The corrosion had eaten the main body ground nearly away, it will have to wait until next weekend though.

Replaced the broken bypass valve on my supercharger yesterday. Had to take the whole 'charger off to work on it.. what a pain.. but totally worth it! I have my low-end torque back, so driveability around town has gone way up, and mpg's should improve below boost. No more of this 20-25mpg Honda nonsense I've been suffering with ;-)

Will be tweaking my part-throttle tune over the next week..
