Installed the combo (boost, EGT, and inlet temp) gauge on the tdi today. Drilled a hole in the dash way up by the VIN number. No good options for a pillar mount so I made it "custom"

Had to remove and lubricate the device that pulls in and latches the sliding rear doors on my Honda Odyssey.I had to do both sides over the past month. The worst part is getting that sum b1tch back in, past the window track hanging down in the middle of the door, my arm looks like I was wrestling feral cats.

Hi all, I'm usually over in the P&N forum, but since I've started restoring my '73 Vette over the past year I've been lurking here for some time. So for starters, I'm almost done with restoring the undercarriage, suspension, steering, brakes and drivetrain up to and including the tranny, driveshaft, half-shafts and diff.

Not much to look at but it took a year to get where I'm at.

Here's some before and after shots of the back half undercarriage:







Today's work included installing brake components that I rebuilt last month, including o-ringed and painted calipers, stainless steel brake lines, brake booster and master cylinder.

Manly manning it on the fiancee's car; had to swap the rear brake pads.

Last weekend was a great success, new air filters and 10 spark plugs for the S8. Had exactly 0 impact on the gas milage :'(

Simple thermostat replacement and a coolant drain and fill.

Also played with the fuel pump.

We both got lucky, I hit some debris in the dark that cut right through the plastic and dented my (cast aluminum) oil pan, and my wife was forced off the road by some asshat in the mountains last week, and totally destroyed the plastic cover.

Stopped by my ol buddy's place earls in gasoline alley and started piecing together my ls oil filter relocation and picked up the an fitting and threaded the slave and set up the t56 for my swap. Hammered on the trans tunnel for a while so I can creep the shifter back a titis whisker.

Spent twenty minutes trying to upload pics to imgur since my old host turned to shit.



Took my c3 in for alignment and new tires . Gd the choices on tires suck for these wheels. Sent out for spacers hubcentric so I can out c5 wheels in my 74. In sure will still handle like shit......god I want a shark bite setup.

I know these cars are bad about that. Keep thinking about picking up one for my TDI jetta. Changed the oil in the jetta over weekend and shattered the plastic section of my dipstick tube. Stupid design but at least it is cheap at just a couple bucks for a new one. For now I just have an old piece of heater hose jammed over the metal section of tube with a bolt in it to keep crap from getting in the oil.

Replaced my JBL stereo in the tundra with a JBL NAV unit. Not a plug and play. Had to splice into the rear camera wires, push some pins out of an existing connector and put them in a new connector for the mic and run a few jumpers, run the nav antenna, etc. Took me a full day but its NICE!

I rebuilt the driver's side carburetor on my VW yesterday. Initially I was trying to make my own gaskets because I couldn't find a set that wasn't gold plated, at least they were priced like it. I wasn't having any luck with my homemade gaskets but I kept searching in the meantime. I finally found Pierce Manifolds in Gilroy, CA and got a couple of sets. Slapped it together in about an hour and got the idle settled.

Then I took it for a test lap around the back yard. I didn't feel like playing The Great American Car Shuffle so no laps around the block. I looked over the rest of the car and noticed one of the tires has got a bulging sidewall so no more fun until I can get some new rubber.

So much wrenching since I last posted... coilovers off and on the S2000 several times due to spring rate experiments, all fluids on all 3 cars, sway/tie/strut bar swapped back to stock on the S2000, rebuilt my brake calipers, pads, rotors, etc. Lots of grease on the elbows.

Replaced shocks and starter motor on the 85 Vette over the weekend. That damn starter actually took longer than the shocks.

New steering rack went into my C230 which has been shuddering in the corners. The cornering is much better, but it's made it obvious that the lower control arm ball joint is worn out on the passenger side, I think next weekend I'll replace upper and lower arms on both sides.

I spent a day under the hood of my daughters 96 Buick, new crank position sensor and intake manifold gaskets. Got all done and noticed that the end seal between the manifold and block had slipped when I placed the manifold. Have to start all over again. I may just set the piece of junk on fire.

You might try a dab or two of gasket maker to hold the gasket in place while everything gets assembled.

Cobra blew the power steering rack and dumped the fluid while on lunch Monday.

Towed on a flatbed, was able to get a 03/04 Cobra specific rack through the dealer over night, put it in in about an hour Tues afternoon. Drove to work Wed morning.

I did that. The "gasket" is a lot more like a chunk of weather striping than a gasket. It's a piss poor method of making the seal, on an engine that appears to be a very long series of bad compromises and questionable designs.

Yesterday, got a pile of parts from the parts MR2 ready for JCH13, then pit a new head unit in the Tacoma. Should've done that a while ago...$108 Pioneer DEHX6600BT, worth every penny.

Last night I helped a friend of mine take the hubs and bearings out of his Audi's strut housings. The hubs pressed out fine, but needed a little dremel and chisel work to crack the bearing races off. One bearing race on each was seized in, so I ran a weld-bead around the inside of each race and then popped them out with a hammer and pipe fairly easily.

I picked up a factory CD changer for my wife's Beetle off one of the VW forums, and installed it last night. She knew I was up to something but I still got her good.
As she was getting ready to leave this morning, I say "oh, it's the <insert favorite artist>, turn it up........" and hand her the empty CD cases.

"You asshole, I KNEW you were up to no good"

I did this to her about 14 years ago with a Camry with factory cd control in the radio.

Buttoning up the new brake system on my 68. Just bled the brakes yesterday but the warning light wouldn't go out. I was afraid something was wrong with the proportioning valve. Read up on it a bit and apparently the piston/shuttle in the valve was stuck. Typically you can bleed the front or rear to position it correctly. So... today I took apart what I just finished putting together. I have the MC off the booster and all the lines disconnected from the distro. block/valve.

I was able to free the valve up. There is actually an access port at the bottom. If I had understood it before, I would have made sure it worked while I was cleaning the first time around.
