Gerald Ford was an outstanding president... well he could have been if he had not pardoned Nixon.

Barack Obama is also a favorite. He is getting things done. So what if the public is against what he is getting done and he is taking out a triple mortgage on our nation to do it. I like the recession... I get a lot of deals at resturaunts because they are struggling so much. Keep up the good work Obama!

The point is should the US spend money on health care or going to Mars. I can see the benefits of health care but what are they for going to the Mars?

There is no benefit to me at all for the health care bill. To me, the whole point of our existence is to explore our universe. Traveling our solar system will benefit our heirs when we are all dead and gone and we have to colonize other planets. It's not sci-fi, it's reality. It's already a shame that the program has been slowly deprecated since the 1980's, Obama is conceding the whole thing.

Putting the space program on the back burner is BS. Imagine if King Charles put Magellan's exploration on hold and spent the ship money on peasants.

Imagine if King Charles had restructured his economy so that exploration didn't require massive government subsidies.

The peasants might have had a better life.

That said this is one area where borrowing money that your children and grandchildren will have to pay back as it's them not us who'll benefit the most out of it.

Ronnie Ray-Gun was clearly the best we've had in the past 100 years, and O'Bummer is stacking up nicely as the worst ever... and he still has time left to mess things up further.

Best President: Nixon

Worst President: Nixon

I think it's funny when folks claim Jimmy Carter was a bad President when, in effect, he 'fixed' the 1970's by eliminating the vestiges of Nixon's price controls, dumped Arthur Burns and appointed Paul Volcker.

The same Volcker who has the most simple, appropriate banking reform rule today:

"Banks benefiting from public support by means of access to the Federal Reserve and FDIC insurance should not engage in essentially speculative activity unrelated to essential bank services."

Hahahah, Reagan. Lets go ask some people in Nicaragua how good of a person Reagan was, or at least the ones that survived and aren't buried in mass graves.
Simply amazes me that people think a person with Alzheimers was one of the greatest presidents.

Europe would have circumvented the globe in the 1700s as opposed to the 1500s. Privatize health care, not science.

I have a friend who claims that GWB is not only the worst U.S. President ever, but the worst elected official in the history of all elected positions since the dawn of man. I have protested several times that this must be hyperbole, that there has to have been someone, somewhere, at least on an local or state level, who was worse. He says no, I'm fairly confident that this is accurate.

And this friend of mine is a republican.

remind your friend that sarah palin was an elected official too ^_^

Wait, so do you seriously mean to imply that the voyages of the 14- and 1500s were primarily scientific in nature? Seriously? This never was about science. In the age of naval exploration science was a sideshow at best.

What someone in Nicaragua thinks of a president is not relevant to my opinion of him. He's the greatest president in modern times.

Simply amazes me that people think a person with Alzheimers was one of the greatest presidents.

That was his later years. He wasn't brilliant in the "ivory tower elitist" way like we have today, he was just a great communicator who surrounded himself with smart folks (for the most part). He was able to communicate issues far beyond the comprehension of average folks in such a way as to make them believe in him. Made the elitists and the media furious, they all hated him, but he got re-elected in a landslide.

Favorite: Teddy Roosevelt
Most Hated: Carter

Perfect President: William Henry Harrison. He died before he could screw anything up.

Hmmm. Best is hard to define. Most underrated, Carter. He's often given flak despite doing many good things and starting the fixes that neocons give Reagan credit for.

FDR did some great things but then also did some horrible things like the Japanese internment camps.

Probably favorite is Clinton. Despite the whole bj thing, he actually handled the office quite well. I think Obama has a good chance to be one of the best ever too.

Worst.
Andrew Jackson. Slaughtered thousands of indians and directly defied a Supreme Court ruling.
Reagan. Iran contra for one and all the bullshit with that. Reaganomics, one of the worst economic concepts ever.
GWB - directly responsible for the massive polarization between left and right we have now. It was never this bad under Clinton or Reagan. This divide is causing the republican party to slide so far right they're gonna tip the entire country over into chaos.

No. I was referring to the space program.

Of course the people with above average intelligence were furious, how could people line up to vote for someone who simply made baseless talking points?

In case you didn't get the Nicaragua point, which it looks like you didn't, Reagan supported the people who were murdering thousands.

Also:
“These gentlemen are the moral equivalents of America’s founding fathers.” — Ronald Regan while introducing the Mujahideen leaders to media on the White house lawns (1985).

See, that statement shows exactly how out of touch the elitists are. They were not the "above average intelligence" voters, they were the stupid out of touch elitists who always seem to think they are smarter than everyone else and that everyone else should agree with them.

That's what Reagan did best -- he understood what the common person felt and was able to communicate with them. The elitists can't fathom how someone could sink so low as to listen to the peasants instead of just telling them what's good for them and that they are just simple fools that need more explaining.

Incidentally, that's exactly what's going on now with the Tea Party. The elitists keep trying to marginalize them and portray them as a bunch of fringe crazies, when in fact they (on average) are a more educated group than the rest of the country. The more they thumb their nose at the people and pretend to know better, the stronger the Tea Party movement gets. Now we just need a new Reagan to lead again.

And look how out of touch you are. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence or that tries to inject intelligence into a conversation is labeled as an "out of touch 'elitist'". Fucking bullshit.

... Wilson was way worse than GWB are you kidding? GWB isn't even in the bottom 3 imo. Lincoln was also pretty bad, sure slavery was abolished because of some of his actions, but he did a lot of harm to the nation and it's states also. He shouldn't rank very highly. FDR is another president I don't really care for either, a lot of things he did we're still feeling the harm of today. Hell overall Nixon doesn't even rank towards the bottom, sure the dude was a douche, but far from the worst President we've ever had.

I don't think GWB is solely responsible for the massive polarization, that has more to do with the two main parties and the media, less to do with anything GWB actually did. You can't blame a person for existing.

Gerald Ford was a pretty smart dude too, pardoning Nixon will always leave a bad taste in peoples mouth with him, but the dude wasn't half bad.
