Steve McQueen in Wanted Dead or Alive

Chuck Connors in The Rifleman

Where have all of the good heroes gone? Do you have a favorite from your childhood/past? I'm going to get these series on DVD and watch them at my house, hopefully I can get the kids interested. These shows taught real good vs. evil, consequences of poor decisions, etc. and always taught a moral.

Remember the GIJoe cartoon PSAs at the end of every show?

Neither Steve nor Chuck are cowboys although they may have played one. Roy Rogers and Gene Autry were the real thing.

James Arness - Matt Dillon
Dan Blocker - Hoss Cartwright

Or maybe I'll go with Chief Wild Eagle of the Hekawi

Yeah - I liked the 1st season but then the network made them tone down the violence.

Clint Eastwood - Rowdy Yates in Rawhide. Going on to do 5 of my top 10 favorite cowboy/western movies seals the deal.

Yep, JWFTW! It's said that he used to play a trick on his movie co-stars, whenever they'd do a saloon scene. He'd substitute the movie set "whiskey" (actually just watered down tea) with actual whiskey. When it came time for them to say cheers and shoot down the shot of whiskey, John Wayne (who was, in real life, quite the whiskey drinker) would shoot his down with a straight face......then usually bust up laughing at the expression/reaction of his co-star when they'd get a mouthful of whiskey, expecting tea!

He was the ultimate badass cowboy. If you don't believe me, check out his last few movies, which he did in his 60's. Still looked like he'd knock your block off with just one hit! Sadly, much like my own father, he died from cancer (small cell lung, if I remember right) too early, at the age of 72. :brokenheart:

But he most certainly wasn't a TV cowboy.
