LOL, conspiracy theories.

It only got 50 miles or so between recharges, and took a while to charge fully. That's, of course, assuming you have a nearby charging station.

My last job, I had a fleet of Honda EV+ cars to use for my between location trips. Besides the 50-70 mile range, they were great little cars. Of course, they had to recharge overnight, and 1 outta 10 cars developed crippling problems, and the kicker, they cost over $50k a piece! We also had GEM carts too. Overall, with all the cars in the fleet, everyone basically said they were great around town, but they wouldn't use it for their daily commutes due to fact they might run out of juice.

damn. My lincoln goes ~ 400 miles on a tank, and chimes the low fuel when you've only got 50 or so miles left.

The oil companies, lobbyists, politicians are completely innocent--they want to be put out of business.

Practicality killed it.

If ANYONE had invented a practical electric car, it would have succeeded.

At my work we had electric vehicles, more than once.

In the early 1980's, and again in the late 1990's- early 2000's.

We had VW rabbits, and rabbit p/u's, they would go about 40 miles on a charge.
Maybe they would be ok with new style batteries.

The newer one's we had {GM's} were at the dealer, more than in service.

I forget which standup comedian, commenting on the war, said this, but it was during the 1st Gulf War, "Why don't they just create an engine that actually runs on 18 year old boys? Bobby, Billy, get in the backseat. Jimmy, you get in engine..."

Wouldn't charging the car just end up wasting more energy at the power plant? At the end of the day still burning fuels?

No, hippies killed it when they heard that the batteries would contain a lot of lead.

You can't please them.

Who killed the electric car? The petrol car, and the fact that it's better.

Oh and the reason they crush them in the arizona desert is because they were testing them there, and they all ran out of charge...

How long do they take to charge? Overnight maybe? Can you imagine going on a road trip, or any journey over 25.0 miles, and having to stop to recharge? And that's 50miles max. If you're dumb enough to have a radio on, windscreen wipers, air conditioning maybe? Ha, you'll be lucky to get 35.
And you'd have to find a recharging spot, which would probably be say, 5miles out of your way (at the very, VERY least)

Also, battery life would probably degrade over time with all of the constant recharges (especially as it wouldn't be able to run flat fully before a recharge, unless you live 24.9 miles from work)

I hope you are not insinuating that to be opposed to lead would make a person a "hippie"...lead is highly toxic, and there is a reason why lead free solders is always an active field of interest

Much the same as they tried to kill the Tucker automobile 'and did' they worked at killing electrics. A gasoline engine is a barrier to entry as not everyone can make a good gasoline engine which was tucker's problems and why he had to find an aircraft engine for his autos.
Anybody can make an electric motor, its dead simple technology and then its possible General Electric and others might start considering building electric cars.
Can't have that
