<< Look at NOFX, Bouncing Souls, Dropkick Murphys, etc etc etc... huge following, people still buy their CDs, they don't charge 20 dollars for albums >>

Since when did CD prices jump to $20? The Staind album I just bought was $12. And that's because the store jacked it up. The band itself gets probably ~$1 of every CD sold

Oh... I thought this was asking if we like to blink. I do. But that wasn't the question was it?!

The band doesn't even get a dollar I don't think unless you're like metallica or some crap.

But I gaurntee I can go into most stores around here and find almost all of the larger bands with CDs at LEAST 15 dollars or higher.. I know I've paid 17.99 for a CD before, that's just a load of crap because the label gets about 99% of that profit.

<< Some bands can still do very well w/o charging 23094809384 dollars for a concert ticket, without MTV, without radio... >>

Thats why I can go to the Warped Tour for ~$25 and see Blink, 311, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Fenix TX, Less Than Jake, The Misfits, Alien Ant Farm, and many other bands.

Yes, the warped tour is one of the last good things going for "punkish" style music... unfortunately, we'll see how much longer it lasts before they start charging 234093294 dollars

It doesn't really matter if you want to call Blink punk then go ahead. If you want to call it pop-punk go for it. Personally, I'll classify it as sh!t.

<< my favorite punk band is Propaghandi >>

I assume that you mean Propagandhi?

Give it up. Punk is dead.

wow, lot of harshness in this thread...

Yea I like Blink, and yea they are pop punk. If you say they aren't stfu, because they are. Pop punk is a genre of music, and I don't care if you hate it.

Did they sell out, no, they became popular which is evidently the same to some people. Is their music different now, yea, but you can't say its b/c a record company gave them lost of $$$.

As for other similar bands I like, which - gasp - might be classified as pop punk, they include:

Ataris - great stuff
Goldfinger
Showoff
Bad Religion
Millencolin

<< REAL punk bands, like the oldschool ones didn't do it for the money. It was a lifestyle, it was all about the music and expressing your feelings and all that nonsense. >>

Exactly. Thats why I question the validity of pop-punk.

yeah... I think they just label it "pop-punk" because it has some sort of punk roots. Whether it being the chords/progressions, or whatever... but people gotta face it. Punk has evolved.

Just because oldschool punk was the original doesn't mean you can't call any band that doesn't sound like that not punk. Take ANY type of music... look at the metal of the 80's. Is there any metal like that out now? hardly.. that has evolved into a different sound. Same goes for rock, etc...

I personally don't like the term pop-punk. I pefer to call TALENTED bands that sound like that more of a "melodic punk". Since today it is less yelling and screaming and you have bands playing with harmonized vocals and some more skilled guitar parts. Bands that get on MTV and call themselves punk... well, THEY are pop-punk because all they want is a bunch of 14 year old fans and to be on every radio station on the planet.

I love Blink: Damnit, Josie, Rock Show. I also like NFG (Hit or Miss) and American Hi-Fi (Flavor of the Week, Another Perfect Day).

"selling out means doing music that the record company
tells you what to do, moron. Its candy coated for the masses,
which you are so obviously part of."

What the Hell is your problem with Blink,
Blink hasn't really changed there music
rather they have evolved like most good
bands do. Anyone that says Goldfinger is
punk and Blink isn't, is clearly mentally
handycaped!

I really don't care what genre a band is in, as long as i like the song. It doesn't matter to me if they're punk wannabe's or what not. I don't like too many of their songs but i DO like What's my age again, Adam's Song, and Damnit.

blink 182 can write some good pop songs. they arent punk. they are pop. but who cares? not me. i like a few of thier songs, but i hate them at the same time. why you ask? i think theyre annoying as all hell. i also think that they are smart....they had a window of oppurtunity and they didnt let it go. good for them, because who gives a sh!t about blue hair and anarchy when you can be rich as sh!t driving around BMW's? i know i would do it if it didnt entail giving up whats most important to me, my life with Jenn.

Evolved? No they didnt, their music is the same as when their name was Blink, as opposed to Blink182. Just because they sound the same as they did before, doesnt mean that some guy in a black suit with slicked back hair isnt telling them what to publish.

Any tour that charges more than $10 a band isnt worth it. Hell, Fugazi still charged $7, and refuses to charge more.

my apologies for not spelling to your satisfaction. Believe it or not, spelling really doesnt matter much here. I'll be sure to critize you for your grammatical errors, though.

I don't want a twinkie smuggler like you "critize"ing me. Contrary to what you believe, when you misspell a word it makes you look like a dumbass and no one cares what a dumbass thinks. I only pointed it out because you said that was your favorite band.

You are just as bad as all the other "punk rawk" weenies out there. You obviously are the type that thinks that a band is "living the lifestyle" if they say "fuck off" a lot or tell "the cointelpro to shove the American flag up their ass". Don't worry about it though, one day you'll grow up and realize what a clueless poseur you are.

I met a boy wearing Vans, 501s, and a
Dope Beastie t, nipple rings, and
New tattoos that claimed that he
Was OGT,
From '92,
The first EP.

And in between
Sips of Coke
He told me that
He thought
We were sellin' out,
Layin' down,
Suckin' up
To the man.

Well now I've got some
A-dvice for you, little buddy.
Before you point the finger
You should know that
I'm the man,

And if I'm the man,

Then you're the man, and
He's the man as well so you can
Point that fvckin' finger up your @ss.

All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fvck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip sh!t,
And you bought one.

My ass. That's just their excuse for sucking. Everyone in the music business is in it mostly for the money. You're starting to sound like trent off of Daria.
