No, what I meant to say was, that their beers are not made as well as could be. The Porter smells like asphalt, the wheat tastes salty, & the pale ale has a nasty acid backwash. The only thing going for them is the artwork.

I would stick with Bells.

Favorite beer is Troegs HopBack but its a local brewed beer so you will be hard pressed to find it outside of PA NJ DE and MD.

Fixed. Sadly.

I just had a growler of triple dry hopped Stone Ruination IPA last week, and boy was that ever fantastic. One of the big perks of living in San Diego for me is the access to lots of great beer: Stone, Alesmith, Ballast Point, Green Flash, Coronado, Pizza Port, Reaper, Alpine, Lightning.

I'm also a huge fan of Northern California breweries like Lagunitas, Marin, Moylan's, Mendocino, Anderson Valley, North Coast, Bison. Rogue is great, but $5 and up for a 22 is way too much to justify picking them over the local choices very often.

Some recent favorites: Moylan's Hopsickle Imperial IPA, Green Flash Imperial IPA, Alesmith Yulesmith double IPA, Anderson Valley Cerveza Crema, Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball, Stone Double Bastard.

The Double Bastard is easier for me to drink, then the regular. I have to eat something with AB, or my face will start twisting. The Double calms me down & smooths out my tongue twisting reactions.

Hoegaarden is my new favorite. I like Rogue beers as well. I usually choose random foreign beers over micro's lately. Of course, there is no substitute for a Guinness.

While I mostly prefer the Lager, their Black & Tan is excellent as well.

While Yuengling is a good cheap beer at the bar its not a great beer.

Usually at a bar in PA its coors, more sh*t, more sh*t, more sh*t, Yuengling for the same price, and then Blue Moon or a local beer for 2 dollars more.

For the price Yuengling is what you should drink as it tastes 1000x better then coors or anything like it. But lets not kid ourselves its nothing special.

Heh, I'm the other way around. I need food to balance out the higher alcohol content of the Double. AB is one of my favorite beers to have all on its own.

Blue Point is a decent local brewery on Long Island. I'm guessing Magic Hat is confined to the Eastern coast?

Well, considering it's brewed in PA I can see where you'd say that. Everywhere else, you're charged import prices for it (if you can even find it).

To rank it with Coors and the like is simply blasphemy.

Consumer Reports rated the best light beers this month. Their best buys are

Busch Light
Natural Light
Keystone Light

This is no BS.

How does the double bastard compare to AB. I've never heard of it.

Well when drinking light beer, you're pretty much drinking water anyway, right?

Might as well go with the cheapest. Although usually you can get Natty Ice and Keystone Ice for the same price as the Light and it gets you considerably more messed up.

For starters, the Double is significantly stronger at 10% abv. Very malty, very hoppy, with a much sweeter flavor than AB.

Just remembered one I tried last week SkullSplitter Orkney Ale, from the Orkney Isles of Scotland. Not sure what to call it but it was a dark-amber reddish beer, 8.5ABV and damn was it good with the prime rib I had.

I think it's a little thicker, so the carbonation doesn't buzz as much. Maltier, but just as hoppy as AB.

I'm starting to get into Hefeweizen but I can't find any really good ones in my markets. The only good one I had was Pyramid.

I'm kicking off the weekend with one of my favorites: Rogue Shakespeare Stout

Rogue.com

I do love the Rogue shakespeare.

Yo need to get a hold of the Yeti Imperial Stout

It's really good.

I like the Redhook offerings, particualrly their darker stuff.

Old Rasputin is a treat, but you should try it, for sure.

OMG -- all of their beers are delicious. I feel blessed to live about two miles from the brewery and be able to go to "The Empty Pint" bar they have up there to partake in 2$ pints of everything they have. Personally, I enjoy the Phin and Matt's Extraordinary Ale is my favorite beer they have, I've been known to dabble in just about everything they have except the Big Red. Their Java Stout that they had for a while was absolutely incredible also if you can find it around.

Also: Yuengling is also priced the same as Bud, Coors, Molson, Labatt -- all around 2.50 to 3 a bottle. This is in Western NY about an hour and a half south of Buffalo NY and two and a half hours north of Pittsburg
