so, I had nothing to eat for breakfast today (haven't been home since Thursady night, so my fridge is empty). I decided to run to the deli down the block to grab a sandwich.

grabbed an egg salad sandwich, because eggs are breakfast-y  just sat down to eat it, though, and discovered that this thing is loaded with onions. blech. I love onions, but in egg salad? oO

wtb egg + mayo + salt/pepper and nothing else.

i do.. egg salad, as with most salads, is a lunch/supper type of meal.

All egg salad is is tuna salad minus the tuna. I load my tuna salad down with onions.

Sounds like it'd be fine to me, although since onions aren't super popular most things don't come with them, so its a bit strange.

I usually use onion powder because I don't always have onions on hand.

I have no problems with the flavor of onions, more the texture/crunch in the otherwise smooth egg salad.

I put onion in/on just about everything - georgia vidalia in the summer. I usually chop it pretty fine - a big chunk of onion can be uncomfortable. Curious though, I've found that when ordering sandwiches, etc. nowadays, you have to specify onion if you want it.

when it comes to egg/tuna/chicken salad, I assume they just make a batch of it in the morning for the day, not per-sandwich.

If I had an onion on hand I would. The thought of the added crunchiness and flavor appeals to me.

onions are the BEST in egg salad. i actually just made some over the weekend and it was amazing!

- farm fresh eggs from my sister's chickens
- fresh onions from her garden
- just a little mustard for flavor
- salt

great...now i want more egg salad. these threads are evil

<edit> ...and of course MAYO (i just figured that was a given)

Onions I can tolerate, but for the love of God, why must there always be celery in all the "salads" (chicken, egg, potato, macaroni, etc.)? I love chicken and egg salad sandwiches, but I can never order one because of the freakin' celery!

That's why I said in/on. Of course, I do this - but to last for days. Mix up a couple of cans of tuna or dozen eggs and the other ingredients. It's actually pretty amazing how long this stuff will last if you keep it well chilled. Then, I have exactly what I want in it and don't have to run out...
