<< Oh sorry, i agree with shawdowhunter that many (not saying majority b/c i really don't know), but many people don't use MS products b/c they are just antiMS, but when you said other reasons, you are right, some people just use there pc's for other things, or feel more comfortable with something else. though if you say netscape is the best browser, i would probably laugh at you.

I admit it. I am anti-ms. But most of that comes from what I am looking for in an OS. And no, netscape is not even close to the best browser. lynx has that spot ;P

i'm sorry but anybody that says lynx is the best browser has been hit on the head too many times. only a *nix freak would say such a thing

5. It only runs on Windows and Mac OS. Even if I didn't hate IE, I couldn't use it since I run Linux.

those who use linux, there is internet explorer for linux, it's right on the ms website.

sure mozilla's goals are to be w3c compliant, but if you followed the progression of ms browsers, you would realize that they are trying to be compliant too. name one standard that mozilla supports that ie doesn't. i couldn't find any...

Hmm.. is it already possible to directly type in an URL instead of having to provide an URL when you start the program?

I like the fact that w3m has colors, though

I dont use w3m. Just wanted to pull another text based browser. In lynx the g button will let you type in an URL to Go to.

I found the UNIX download, which I knew about, but unfortunately the biggest problem is the hardware compatibility. Although, the solaris version might work on OpenBSD-sparc...

I cant think of anything mozilla supports that ie doesnt (besides a larger variety of platforms), but since it doesnt compile on my platform of choice I dont pay much attention to its development.

I think the problem isn't so much that it doesn't support the standards so much as the fact that IE supports so many non-standards. I've seen entire sites that were only usable in IE, they wouldn't work in any other browser because they were using lots of nonstandard elements, and they only checked the page with IE. I know that if my page looks correct in netscape or Mozilla, it's going to work in just about any other browser. And if I'm careful, even lynx can use it without much trouble.

Netscape was the best like 6 years ago. But ie quickly caught up. Mozilla is netscape 6 without all the extra crap. Worth taking a look at anyhow. The tabs option just rocks

Just adding to what you said, I *CANNOT* visit Microsoft's site using Netscape 4.7x for BSD/OS on OpenBSD. The page will not load.

is that a problem with the website, or with netscape 4.7?

i was going to dl mozilla, but my cable connection is currently slow beyond belief. boooo. oh well.

Ill go halfsies on this one
Netscape 4.7x sucks, but it seems to be the latest one out there for BSD/OS (last time I checked). I cant stand that version of netscape anymore, but its the only choice I have right now for that machine.

Apparently nobody here is aware of www.fuckmicrosoft.com? Microsoft stores all kinds of information behind your back, without your permission. Even after clearing any possible cache you can think of, there are still hidden files, hidden even to windows explorer even if you select "show all/hidden files", etc. There are ways posted on the previously mentioned webpage that show how to get around it - but it's always being worked on, so there's always more.. Microsoft went to great lengths to hide it. But why? I don't know, but I don't like sneaky stuff going on behind my back. But then again, who's to say there isn't anything similar with other products by other companies? Has anyone invested time in checking those? Or have these people just checked out Microsoft because they hate them...

who knows, but I think IE is a great browser, whether it's sneaky or not. Mozilla is inferior in my opinion .. I prefer to use IE.

i dunno about privacy stuff, but i imagine some of the rationale behind the hidden files is so that people can't delete them, then gripe to them about how the os isn't working.
