I agree the price is high, but it will run the system no problems. And peace of mind can be worth it sometimes. No telling what kinds of power req's will be next year with new cards. Its already up a lot from one year ago.

I have the 510 SLI PSU, but its a real 510w. Not an inflated rating like lots of others do. It also has tons of connections. I was going to get the 850, but when I was building, it was a few weeks away from coming out, and it only had about a 1/2" clearance... :/ I could have modded my case to fit, but for once, I was going to try and build a case without modding it.

I'd try straight to the wall, but I've only got one outlet in that area of the condo, and it's got a full surge supressor (has my cable modem, my LinkSys WRT54GX, my Speakers, my external Seagate, and a single 2405 are plugged into).

That actually makes me think it *could* be a dirty power problem.

Got an extension cord (a heavy-duty one, lest you set your apartment on fire )? Or feel like lugging it to another room? Run the PC on another less loaded circuit and see if the behavior improves. You could easily be pulling 8-10A from that outlet (or worse if there are other outlets on the same circuit) -- and while it's probably not a fire hazard, you might be getting voltage sags or just generally crappy power at that kind of load.

*frowns* You know, that would really tweak my frustrations if it was something that was out of my control (and for what I'm paying for the place, I'd REALLY be unhappy).

Man just run 2 powersupplies.

Just jumpstart the one powersupply by putting a wire between the green and black slots on the motherboard power connector. You obviousl have enough power. Dont waste money om 850 watt PS lol.. Crazy.

btw... Can I have one? ... perdy perdy pwweasseeeee. lol..*sad puppy dog eyes*

Heh..could you imagine the mobo to house those? You'd have no room for any other slots (or least the ability to house anything in those slots).

I've thought about a second PSU, but I'd need to get another case for that, and I'm not really excited about that proposition, either.

I'm just curious, what is the 12v line rating on your 600w PSU? The only setup I've seen run SLI 512GTXs used two 600watt OCZ PSUs, but this was for benching, and not 24/7 use.

Ahhh- just set it on top of your existing case. Of course this comes from someone that doesn't use a case at all sooo..not the cleanest look I suppose.

if you want to buya single psu, the pc power and cooling is the only way to go in my opinion. i have a 510 and it is rock solid. if they would have had the 850 or 1000 when i bought ghis one i would have gotton one of those but they wern't out yet. can't go wrong with the pcp&c. rock solid.

So the 680 is ok for those cards in SLI?

Hey Ronin i already knew before reading into this thread that you had not paid for them.

Just wondering why you ordered 6, is there a reason or can you not disclose this?

Also do you get to keep all of this equipment?

Jeez .. i wish i had your contacts, so i could order stuff like that

It's nice that Nvidia has decided to send you 6 of these cards when the average person still cannot purchase one anywhere (except eBay maybe). Your title is a bit silly since the cards are still not "available" to any normal person. I hope you actually have a good reason to have 6 of these cards. I doubt you're going to tell us, though, since it's probably top secret

I don't see how a power supply with higher efficiency rating is going to help you. A 680W power supply is going to output 680W of power regardless of its efficiency (well, not really). However, a more efficient power supply will use less power to produce that 680W. A better quality power supply that actually is capable of outputting its rated amount (continuously, not peak) is probably what you want and Thermaltake isn't one of those companies that makes good power supplies.

Your replies to the topic have been incredibly enlightening. I'm sure it's gotta be a coincidence, but every single post of yours I see, you're attacking/berating someone. What happened-- Ronin didn't fall for your childish flamebait, so you though you'd test the water again?

Since sisq0kidd isn't online to repeat it, I'll go ahead and just quote his earlier response:

Ronin, the average home has 15AMP breakers minimum. Newer homes usually come with 20AMP per leg. You are not going to blow a breaker unless your runnning an air conditioner and a vacuum cleaner on the same leg as your rig. Even if the wiring is cheap in your 5 year old condo, its still has to be up to code. You might need a line conditioner/UPS.

hrm... 680W power supply at 80% efficiency would be using 850W of power (an extreme case, since I doubt the system is using max power). That's about 7 amps of power

The breaker that I'm plugged into is a 15A (as I said, I've already seen it, as we've already tripped it). Either way, the condo is a temporary move. House will be finished in about 7 months, and we'll be in a house we specced out ourselves.

I think I'm gonna get the Fortron (I'll keep the other PCP&C in mind) and see how things go.

Last chance to talk me into something else.
