tagej,

If your going to do an 8 team playoff you'll need to cancel all pre-conference games. Otherwise Adding another 3 weeks to the schedule would drag the season well past new years day.

C'mon, it's not hard to understand the inference. Think about it why I made that assertion ...

This year. From top to bottom the Pac 10 is the toughest this year.

I was using that fact to support Washington's position in the BCS. This is not just my opinion but it's been shared by more than a few columnists ranging from cnnsi, sportingnews, espn and others.

If Washington wasn't ranked #4, Oregon State #5 and Oregon at #8 then I wouldn't be making such assertions.

If Washington wasn't ranked so highly and right in the BCS mix then the topic of Pac 10 Conference parity would not have come into discussion, right? Do you see the commonality?

If this discussion was about the toughest conference consistently from year to year then I would agree with your choice. But this year the Pac 10 has been amazing. You won't see any blowouts ... except for the Washington/Washington State game last week.

Of course Oklahoma should be #1. But as for #2, I htink Miami may jump back ahead of Florida State after they're win over BC, the margin of victory should bump them back up. If Miami doesn't get into the Orange Bowl, I think we'll see a split Nat'l champion this year. Oklahoma will win the Orange Bowl, but it'll be close. And Miami will destroy whoever they play and be #1 in the AP.

OU, and not just cuz they kicked the sh!t outta us (OU sucks!)
they played at K-state, then UNL at home, and then played A&M at college station which is extremely tough to do. okay, they didn't do well against OSU this yesterday, but they haven't been beaten yet, which is important. not the only thing, but important.

washington is under miami because miami lost earlier. that simple.

Big win, yes, but margin of victory not enough to make up for the hit their strength of schedule took by playing BC.
Miami actually lost ground to FSU this week.
I'm hoping Oklahoma loses to K-State in the Big 12 championship game so we can have an FSU-Miami rematch. They are, right now, the best 2 teams.

I'm just wondering with amazement that the prognosticators are predicting that Notre Dame will be invited to the Fiesta bowl when there are a bunch of teams ranked higher than them in the BCS ... namely Oregon State! Sheesh, it just goes to show that the BCS is not interested in putting the best teams together but it's all about the cash. Especially since Notre Dame has a sweetheart deal with the BCS in that if Notre Dame is anywhere close in smelling the BCS then it will leapfrog over the better choices due to their name-clout. That plain sucks.

well, fsu is the best team in the country right now, that is biased by the fact that i am a student there, but i don't think many sportswriters will disagree at that fact. washington does have a valid point to be in the championship, but i don't think if they played anywhere but home they would be able to compare to any of the teams ranked above them. but then again, by the logic of washington should be no 2 cuz they beat miami, which beat fsu, then: u could put wisconsin as a candidate for orange bowl, becuase they beat oregon, which beat washington, etc....or to carry it further, iowa has a claim, since they beat northwestern, which beat wisconsin, etc.... (borrowing from stewart mandel there cnnsi.com)

anyways, i think both fsu and miami would embarass ou completely and make it not even a game. but the miami fsu game would be a brawl....and i don't think my seminoles are gonna let anyone beat them 2x in one season

bill_n_opus, make no mistake about it, the BCS never was, and never will be about pitting the best teams against each other to get a real champion .... it's a system designed to get the most TV dollars. That's why Notre Dame, as long as they finish anywhere near the top 10, will be in one of the BCS bowls.

Tiger, yep, they should just do away with the creampuff pre-schedule schedule (if you know what I mean), and just add 2 or 3 playoff games at the end. With conference championship games etc, teams are playing 12 or 13 game seasons anyway. Why not do away with conference title games and add a real playoff championship? That way we would NEVER have to think "yeah, such and such won the championship, but the best team in the country was probably such and such".

Oklahoma looked unbeatable in Oct. and average in Nov.
Kansas State (ranked 7th, this time around) this Sat. should show if they can regain their form.
At least I've had the chance to watch Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas from row 63 on the 20 yard line. That's a thrill for me.
Go Sooners !

I think the Huskers should be the number 1 team. It is just that every other team steps up to face Huskers. It's like everyone has a grudge against them. Look at the Sooners. The played well against NU but what happened after that.. THey basically stank... Huskers have been playing well throughout. Just for some unlucky streaks.. I think they're still a great team.. Probably the best..

panakk are your tickets in south stadium or what? have you had an obscured view of the field? I love the huskers more than my own girlfriend, but I don't think they should be #1. we're an average team this year, with some outstanding preformances a few times. the offense couldn't put it together against kstate for more than 7 min, maybe if the D hadn't played for 45 minutes of that game we would have won. and thats not the only example, on more than one occasion, we just haven't been able to put things together, thats why we're not there, maybe next year. at least then I won't have to travel 700 miles to see Notre Dame lose

Don't sell Okla. short, just now. History has shown that many great teams get in a purple funk and perform just well enough to win and latter return to clicking on all cylinders.
Fla. St. is always there at the end. They have the best talent in the country, as well as a smart coach and savvy QB.
Should be a great game.

tagej, you're right. I was just reading an article on either Cnnsi.com or sportingnews.com and the simple explanation is that the BCS was invented to match up the number one and two teams for the big playoff. Everything else is up for the big payoff. So, even if Oregon State is #5 in the country and is more of a deserving team than Notre Dame who is ranked #10/11, given a choice without reprisals the Fiest Bowl Committee would rather choose Notre Dame because of the dollar potential.

In fact, the Pac 10 are grumbling of moving out of the BCS after the contract is over in 2006 because of snubbing behavior.

Oklahoma deserves to be ranked #1 unless they lose to K-State. What I wanna know is when will Georgia Tech get the respect they deserve. 9-2 during a season where everyone thought they would go more like 6-5. Only losses were to FSU by 5 points and NC State by a TD in OT. We took Clemson down when they were undefeated and ranked #4 and we still hardly broke the top 20... as much as I think the BCS sucks it is really the only poll that is giving us even close to what we deserve right now.... FSU better look out for us next year, now that there 50 yearold quarterback is leaving I feel there time is about to come.

As for the best conference...SEC has 9 bowl eligable teams...nuff said.

Oh, and as for the sports writters saying FSU is the best now?... those same sports writers agreed with me and the rest of the GT fans when FSU commiteed a pass interferance call when we had the ball, 4 and 2 around the 40, down by only 5 with a little over a minute to go. Too bad we couldn't have seen what would have happened if they had called it.

Anyone else think that if you play a pro sport at all, any pro sport, you shouldn't be able to go back to college to play something else?

jt, i do agree that gt is underrated this year and what you all have done is damn good. i don't think fsu has too much to worry about next year though...we play you at home and in all honesty, your best chance of beating us was last year, when you still had joe hamilton and dez white. nothing against your team now or anything

Don't underestimate the GOOSE! What many people don't realize is it was actually Kelly Cambell that had more passing yardage during the '99 season..not Dez White. Our defense is getting better and FSU is lossing Wienke right? We have a shot We definitly had a better shot of beating FSU this year...I was at both this years game and last years...if we had this years defense and last years offense we would blown yall out...one can only wish....
