I thought I hated it until I started working at a company which still uses Office 2000.

It took me a _long_ while to get used to it, but now that I am... I don't dislike it any more.

it was a big motivator for me to use openoffice, that and the equation editor seems more powerful in openoffice

Only have it at home. Still using old version at work, and I am fairly advanced with Word and Excel. I like it now. Gotten use to it, everything is more intuitive and the new features are great.

I love it. I use Excel everyday and all of the commands that used to be buried in Right-Click menus are now right there on my ribbon bar.

I use 2007 at home and 2003 at work. 2003 is soooooooooooooooooooo much worse than 2007 it's not even funny. Plus, Excel 2003 is the next best thing to worthless considering the stone-age line and column limitations plus the fact that the pivot table interface is abysmal.

is it really more "intuitive" if it takes everyone a long time to "get used" to it?

Used to it now. I use mostly keyboard and mouse shortcuts anyway. Once you learn the ribbon though it's faster than the old.

Hate it. It's idiocy, and is invading other software, too.

Today, all you have are widescreen monitors! A pox on everyone who thought taking up more vertical space was a good idea. A sidebar interface would have been far superior.

I still have to do that as much as I ever did.

You're doing it wrong.

I would say it is more intuitive if you're looking at it with fresh eyes, and therein lays the problem for most users.

Those who are used to Office 97-2003 are going in with a biased thought process of what they are looking for (I know it was in the Tools > Options menu, where can I find tools option..). This just causes frustration as you have to retrain the brain.

I hated it at first, but now I'm used to it I find it so much quicker to do a majority of tasks I need to do.

I've never seen 2010, but the 2007 version is nice. The ribbon is efficient - still, you must know how to pop-up a dialog box when you need it.

I use Word regularly with a touch of Excel every now and then. I don't bother with OneNote, PowerPoint, or Publisher. Publisher is a joke. It chokes on displaying Word documents. >_<

2007 when I first started was kinda ehhh, but I got used to it in like 20 minutes. I'm on 2010 now and it kicks so much ass.
I hate when I VNC into someone's machine to help them and they are still on 2003. Ugh.

My workplace just announced plans to upgrade from Office 2003 to Office 2010 in 2015.

So to answer your question... I don't know, no experience.

It still aggravates me. I've figured out how to do the old commands I used to do, but when I have to figure out something new it's a pain in the ass. A lot of the old shortcuts I used to do no longer work at all unless I setup a specific new shortcut for them, and even then don't carry over to other computers so it's not much use.

I'm getting used to it - because I have to, unfortunately. I'd be quite happy to use Office 2003 for the rest of my working life.

Also, Office 2010 appears to be slower than 2003 when launching which is annoying.

Its alright. I like some things and am still sort of stumped by others. Honestly, the old interface is unbelievably cluttered and random but I was used to it so kind of didn't notice anymore. I'm not sure the new interface would have worked back in 1997 though since it uses up screen real estate like its going out of style and resolutions were way smaller back then.

Someone already commented about "fresh eyes", which is essentially the point of many others and mines too.

Word/Excel pre-2007 is shit unintuitive. Post-2007, you get tool bars that pop up as needed and no 50 sub-menus.

Now AutoCAD, that's a piece of shit with the ribbon toolbar update. We were never taught to use the icons, always the command line and the menus. Nothing's intuitive there, so the reorganization just fuxxors everything.

Still not a fan of it. I miss the menus and quick Alt+key shortcuts to get to things, which can really slow things down. Now you can just about chop off your keyboard hand and use nothing but the mouse.

They liken the computer's Desktop to the surface of a workbench. Relying entirely on the mouse is like tying one hand behind your back and going to work. If you want a new tool, you have to put down the workpiece, pick up the tool, pick how you want to use it, then move back to the workpiece, all while your other hand gets to contribute absolutely nothing to the process.

 keyboard shortcuts.

Um 2010 still has alt+key shortcuts. You can even set up your own very easily.

It seems that the people who have problems with 07/10 are the ones who don't want to take 5 minutes to figure it out. But I swear if you put the little bit of time into it, you'll never want to see 2003 again.
