I would have to disagree. I've got an account on 5-6 different NZB sites, if you added them all together it would still be just a fraction of the community input on Matrix before it closed.

Which sites would those be? I know of one site with a huge community of over 10,000 members that always leave comments on a lot of releases.

I honestly think there is more content now than with the Matrix, and on some sites a decent amount of feedback.

The Matrix was a very bad thing for the community at the end. It just made takedowns too easy...

Dogz
OZ NZB
Planet Nzb
NZB.su
Plus one other I can't think of right now, can't look it up because I'm at work.
Like I said earlier, if you added them all together it would still be just a fraction of the community input on Matrix before it closed.

EDIT: In fact Oz is now trying to force people to rate downloads, which I think is turning people off.

Did you ever figure out what the 5th one was?

I didn't know Oz was trying to force people to rate downloads. That is always a bad thing for the most part.

Though I know of one site that forces you to thank for uploads.

I still use it; Sickbeard, Couchpotato & Sabnzbd make me very happy. For older stuff I use torrents still.

Pretty much this, Usenet for anything current, torrents for hard to find material.

What usenet client software are you all using these days? I have to admit, I don't use the indexes and NZB - I just pull the headers and browse what's out there.

My primary interest is music in lossless formats (alt.binaries.sounds.lossless. ...) and the content is decidedly NOT current. I doubt if many of the posters to those groups are under age 50. It's great if you're looking to flesh out your catalog of Jackson Brown and Velvet Underground, but very little from the past twenty years gets posted.

I use Alt.Binz (paid version), Newsleecher sometimes, and SABnzbd for the push feature from DogNZB.

So I guess the only real usenet client software I use is Newsleecher. I use the supersearch feature sometimes. Though I do browse headers too. I tried liking Newsbin but just don't.

What do you use?

I'm using an older version of Agent. Plus I've cobbled together a script using a few command-line tools to automate posting, generating PAR2s, nfo files, etc.

You say you have alt.binz, but you don't use it?

No I use Alt.Binz. Actually as my main program for usenet sense I use a lot of nzb I either get from my nzb indexing sites & create from newsleecher either from headers or supersearch.

SABnzbd is mainly used for the automate push feature for some content on DogNZB so I get it as soon as it is uploaded to usenet instantly! Really nice feature.

May give NZBget a try soon. Suppose to be better than SABnzbd.

So have you always used Agent? Are you on the latest version ?

The script you cobbled together that automates posting, generating PAR2s, nfo files, etc is it for you to post to usenet? That is what I am guessing.

Ive scaled back my usenet usage a lot. I joined private trackers. I still use it as a backup.

I sure hope one of the DMCA people who do takedowns is reading this topic! Like tossing it in there fast that they can't do takedowns on my news provider I use!

I stopped using NNTP last November when my provider (GigaNews) became too difficult to navigate through. Seriously, how the hell does one open a binaries group and d/l +100 Million headers in a month? This changed in a handful of months when the same group got <<<1 Million headers in six months.

Why are you still d/l headers? Seriously it's not 1996.

Yeah I stuck with Easynews back in the early 2000s because it was one of the first ones that developed this amazing (at least at that time) in-house search engine with automatic unrar --> zip for easy download.

Then people came out with nzb, so I just never left.

Easynews sucks nowadays.
