I wouldn't mind a pm on how to start up with usenet.

While you are at it learn how to xdcc the bots on Irc.
There are search engines out there that are like Torrent, and Nzb but are for packs if needed. The hardest part is setting up your ports and configuring Mirc to auto download when your turn comes up.. By the way always read the info in the channel before requesting a pack.

Yep easynews but they are far to expensive. I prefer my $5 a month unlimited account special with Supernews.
I don't know what you get with the alternatives, but Easynews is worth it for the GUI, the global search with global/custom filters (gets rid of 95% of the german language "discussions" in results), its PAR viewer with auto-unzip/auto-unRAR so you can ID virus/PW-locked junk (anything that doesn't automatically extract in PAR viewer AVOID), and ZIP manager so you can place everything in queues and download it all at once.

I just downloaded from Astraweb last night at full speed. Funny thing is, according to Newsbin this was going a little faster than my Speakeasy Internet speed test from nearby servers.

I think news group access used to be offered by default from ISPs, but most if not all have stopped that. That might be what you're thinking of.

In case this was posted previously pardon me for not reading all the posts.. but i've been using Sickbeard + SABNZBD + NZBMatrixfor the past 5 months or so. Setup was a little bit cumbersome, but works like a dream now.

So I've been testing Usenet for the last month and in my opinion it is not better than torrenting properly. Canceling my subscription, what a waste of cash.

First off, what do you call 'torrenting properly'? Are you using a paid proxy that actually does something to protect you?
For Usenet did you pay for a good indexing site like NZBMatrix?
Did you use SAB, Sickbeard, and Couchpotato?
