It’s a turbulent time for some. As the Superbowl rapidly approaches, many a home chef will be wondering to themselves, How do I please the strange mixture of people coming over to watch the big game? Should I serve meat pies? No, too manly. Cupcakes? No, what is this, a viewing of 7th Heaven? Wait…wait…I got it…

Buffalo Chicken Super Bowl Cupcakes. I’m not sure what came over the always talented Stef and her incessant need to create awesome things for her cupcake blog, but she’s done it again. And according to her recipe, this isn’t as “disgusting” as the shock value of her picture would lead you to believe.

The buffalo chicken cupcakes aren’t terribly sweet, in fact, they’re more along the lines of “cornbread sweet,” if that helps you get in the right mindset. There’s no chicken in the cupcake, they work great as appetizers, and the entire cake features a blue cheese buttercream frosting.

She’s included a detailed recipe for those looking to break some jaw vertebrates come game day, but here’s a picture to tide you over between link-clicks:

if it really does taste like corn bread with blue cheese frosting and a wing on top I would eat a shit load of these. Looks weird, sounds weird, but the recipe seems like it could work.

IMO putting a buffalo wing on a cupcake does not make it a "buffalo wing cupcake", it's just a cupcake and a buffalo wing smooshed together. If I baked a pizza and put an unopened can of Coke on it, could I then call it a "Coke pizza"? I think that a true buffalo wing cupcake needs to find some way to incorporate the buffalo chicken into the cupcake beyond just laying it on top. This is especially true since the wing is bone-in, so there really isn't a plausible way to eat this without separating the constituent (and dissonant) components.

This place has good tasting cupcakes, but they are TINY and IMO expensive for what you get. You also don't get that cupcake experience of biting into a big spongy cake as these things are less than bite sized.

Some people in the office recently spent a couple hundred on cupcakes for a small party with 15 or so people.

I like the giant cupcakes they sell at Costco.

I once had a party with a cupcake so huge we only needed to get one of them. Cut it into pieces and passed them out to everyone. There was still cupcake left! Giant cupcakes rule.

Good job reading the link.

The original article is quoted in the OP. If you click through to the recipe you'll see such things as:
Q. Is there chicken in the cupcake?
A. No, just on top.

Soooooo...... you fail. It's basically a "hot sauce" cupcake with a buffalo wing on top; that is NOT a buffalo wing cupcake. Again, that is nothing more than a pizza with an unopened can of Coke on it.

I serving this little appetizer at my super bowl party.

Looks great! But seems a bit vulnerable especially if you get tipsy people or excited people running around. Also seems like there'd be cleanliness issue with people trying to reach inside the stadium and touching the outside with their clothes and arms and stuff...
