Finished COP last night and started SOC. I've actually never finished SOC despite getting it a couple years ago. This time I'm using the Complete mod and so far I like it. Looks pretty good given its age, although the character models are pretty bad. The rain looks bad too. But overall it's nice and it also runs perfectly maxed out on my computer - with COP I had to mess around with the settings a lot to get decent framerates.
Also this time around I'm playing on the second highest difficulty. It's definitely a challenge. I had always played on Stalker difficulty before, but I rarely felt like I was in any danger.
Could someone give a cliffs notes of the mod features? Streaming media sites are blocked here.
I'm a fanatic for Stalker and I never even heard of this mod for any of the games.
Call me a scrub but I'm playing the second to easiest, and I still die a lot. I guess my issue is that I'm doing missions that are probably meant for when I have better gear, but there is no indication in the game, as everything is open ended.
Anyone have links to sites that is a sort of starter guide to the games. I don't need walk through persay, just a bit of guidance towards the beginning so I can get used to the game world.

I'm not sure of a guide but I will say that the game is harder in the early parts than later on. You are very weak in the beginning, you only have access to crappy inaccurate weapons, and you don't have the tools or money to upgrade them very much either.
A lot of things can kill you and unlike a typical run-n-gun FPS, you aren't any better equipped or protected than your enemies. So you have to be careful and avoid fights early on.
There's probably a forum out there with a guide of some sort.
That is sort of true. If you're in the fray with a bunch of enemies, you will just die. You pretty much have to shoot them from afar or take them on one-on-one.
Shotguns are useful for mutants though. Not much for human enemies. Pistols universally suck in all iterations of the game, but early on, that's all you can get.
The amazing thing is that you are so much stronger by the end of the game than in the beginning even though you don't level up or anything. Getting better gear is the equivalent of leveling up.
Are you doing SoC or CoP? They are a little different.
Yeah, getting the first assault rifle is a big deal. Then getting some ammo for it.
I kind of think of stalker as mostly a sniper game and sniping is almost impossible with a pistol or the crappy shotgun. Eventually you get a sweet gun with a scope. You can revisit old places and just mow them down. Sort like an RPG when you struggle to kill your first orc, then take down whole tribes of them later with the sword of flaming death.
I was playing SOC Complete but started COP just because I heard it's a bit more accessable (plus the COP complete mod is coming out soon). Taking what you guys said into consideration, I think I'll start over again and be more careful as to which missions I take on at the beginning.
For the first part of CoP:head to your right when you first drop in. There are some stashes near the lake, be sure to get the TRS 301. Then go all the way to the road and get the sniper rifle under the tree. Then go to the sawmill, kill the zombies (from as far away as possible, put the TRS on single shot fire), and get the tools and ammo in the top floor of the cabin place. Then to skadovsk, give the tools to Cardan. Then go to burning farmstead and get the VintarBC.
Map here with location of stashes. http://cop.zsg.dk/Map_Zaton.php
I've forgotten the details about SoC.
You should change the title of this thread...it looks like you're giving away CoP or something and is very misleading, leading to many views of your topic when there might not be that many based on the assumption of what the thread is about.
I'd recommend: Call of Pripyat Complete Mod soon to be released!"
I don't think anyone thought that except you

Maybe, but when you saw the thread title, what did you think when you saw "Who wants some Call of Pripyat?" It certainly wasn't "Oh hey, sweet, the CoP complete mod!" The thread title is misleading.
