I installed CoP on Steam - then I installed Pripyat Complete.

Installation went fine. When I tried to start a new game it always hung after the "Press Any Key..." step. I tried three times and gave up.


I am on fully updated Vista 32 and fully updated ATI 4850.

In your CoP directory, see if you have a user.ltx file. Try getting rid of that (probably better to move/save it in case it borks things up). I had to do that, but I figured it was due to some previous mods I had used. I'm running XP and some sort of ATI.

Thanks that worked. I found the folder in 2 places and moved them to desktop folder. It still takes awhile to load game but when I get to the "Press Any Key.." part I get in the game and don't freeze up.

Load times are much longer for me at well.

My impressions from the mod so far...

Graphics are overall just better... almost like a bump up in resolution. The night time sky is really cool.

Sound is improved, gunshots are more.. impressive I guess.

The changes in gameplay aren't huge, but are all for the better:

Forinstance, the area around Skadovsk often seems like a warzone, with huge amounts of gunfire related to the latest wave of zombies or mutants.

Mutants have slightly better AI, making them a bit tougher, that's a good thing. I think there are a lot more mutants and zombies in general.

The random bandits and zombies don't drop decent weapons as much, is almost always the crappy AKs. Took me forever to get my first AN 94. Night vision is much improved also, for both first and second gen. Haven't tried the 3rd gen yet.

On the downside, load times as above. Also it's less stable. I have hard crashes from zoning (the autosave to new zone still works) and more rarely, it just crashes for no apparent reason.

Overall though, big thumbs up.

I just finished COP vanilla the other day and was quite impressed overall, typical Stalker game- a bit buggy and weird but atmosphere was excellent.

I installed the Complete mod 'Advanced' version (apparently for high end hardware, larger textures, more memory usage, larger draw distances etc). Simply put, I wish I had played it through like this the first time. It's excellent. Even playing with a GTX580 at 60fps maxed there is a hitching every few seconds with vanilla COP as the game loads textures on the fly. That is fixed with complete mod as the draw distance is excellent and is loaded into texture memory beforehand (I assume)- hence the longer load times.

The game itself plays better overall too, less buggy and more quests (either that or I run into side quest more frequently than I did in vanilla). The high rez textures are excellent aswell.

All round an excellent addition to COP- anyone considering playing this should, IMO, install this mod first. I am all for "play vanilla first then mod it" but really, this does not detract from the vanilla game experience at all and only adds to it.

I keep dying to anomalies, what are you supposed to do about them?

They have the artifacts, so do I just ignore them and move on?

If you're talking artifacts being next to those nasty "vacuum" anomlies, usually I try to shoot them out. But if doesn't work I wouldn't risk it lol

this is my strategy for SoC version.

Is there a recommended order to play these three games in?

I originally got SOC...played it vanilla...walked away from it...

loaded it again and used the complete mod and got all the way to the end and COULD NOT beat it at the difficulty level I was on...I ran out of Ammo...

I think it was around the part with the multiple helicopters...and then eventually reloaded my OS and lost all my progress...

Now that the three games are out I was thinking about starting back up with these again.


Any recommendations are appreciated.
