It should be a straight white man not from a left coast or east coast state. As much as I and many of us wish we could pick someone like Mayor Pete - America is probably not ready for a minority woman and gay man ticket. And even though I love Whitmer and had hoped for a primary for her to win, Biden stole that from us. It can't be two women unfortunately.

Maybe in 2028 if we can repudiate Trumpism at the polls now that we have a viable candidate, we can start to break through those barriers.

The clear choices are some governors, including Beshear in Kentucky and Shapiro in PA. I'm with @K1052, Shapiro is the best choice as we need PA. The Jewish thing I think can work out as it's not his identity. He's a PA guy.

Any other picks?

I think both Shapiro and Beshear are solid choices. Buttegieg would also be good in the technical sense but politically maybe not as viable (despite him being my ideal candidate for president)

Newsom could be in the running but I don't think he'd get the pick, especially because a double California ticket would be a bad look at the national level. People might also find him a bit abrasive/divisive because he's willing to go toe to toe with a Trump or DeSantis

This should be a pole.
Good point. Guess let's see all the names that get put forward, and then throw them all into a poll. I mean there is a pretty safe list to make but maybe some people will suprise.

2 best picks IMO

A former General like Mike Milley, Trump's former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs who not only knows the threat posed by Trump but has instant gravitas/credibility

Josh Shapiro. Doing a great job in my state, popular and we need PA.

My ranking probably goes Shapiro, Beshear, and then Cooper in that order.

The Constitution disallows the Pres and VP from the same state (special exemption for Bush-Cheney) so no Newsom. Besides, Gov of California is a way better job than VP.

Interesting pick of Milley. I never considered him or other high ranking officers, but getting that high up is very much political. So it's not like he wouldn't have the chops for a civilian-political position.

I like Shapiro but he would be joining an underdog ticket with a tough hill to climb. If they crash and burn does he prematurely end his career?

We need candidates like him for 2028 assuming we continue to have elections down the line.

Let's worry about 2024, 2028 should not be on anybody's mind. We have a whole party to get more candidates from in 2028 if we even have Democracy.

Negative. It just disallows that state's delegation from casting its electoral votes for both candidates.

Top Tier:
Shapiro
Beshear
Cooper
Pritzker
Whitmer

2nd Tier:
Newsom
Polis
Mayor Pete
Moore
Warnock

I see real demographic/political issues with the 2nd tier, and that's why they're there.

My personal pick would be a 1a/1b of Shapiro/Pritzker.

I'll do it. $235k/year would be sweet. Bang the gavel to open the session then call me when there is a tie to break. I'd break the record for official travel.
Make protection and proliferation of condors your official VP task for 4 years and you've got my vote!

Let's see a population doubling per year! GO!

I'll go with 1e Whitmer/ 1a Shapiro as gotta be ready to grind out an ugly win by defending PA, MI, WI.. not necessarily lose the game going long to win by a couple..

At this point it feels like Dems are bringing a knife to a gunfight with insignificant pieces on the board like Harris.

Tell me, is Kamala going to be the one that rallies voters to reject the new vision for America that guys like Vance, Thiel, Musk, and Curtis Yarvin have?

Seriously, read this stuff. Trump is just an access point for these guys who are now pumping a ton of money into this election with their bought and paid candidates. These aren't fringe nobodies anymore, the next administration is drawing up inspiration from these guys.

Dems keep trying to meet the GOP as if it's 2012. Look how long it took for the messaging to take place against P2025, that's just the tip of the spear for some of the stuff they have planned. And guys like Vance will enable all of it.

Look, I know you have to win elections first, and in today's polarized world, you likely need a Congressional supermajority (or SCOTUS on your side) to get anything meaningful passed, AND Dems need to overcome barriers like gerrymandering and the EC. I get all that, but Dems keep trying to deal with the GOP as if it's a normal party and we are sprinting towards a bleak future.

Just play all the clips etc of Vance calling Trump a Nazi etc. Apparently MAGA is not a fan of him already. That pick might cost him some MAGA white nationalist votes.

So you’re saying that Dems are going to again win the presidency, gain supermajorities in both chambers, and appoint very liberal judges to SCOTUS.

Well fuck, I haven’t been this bullish on the Dems in a minute. 🥥🌴🥥🌴🥥🌴

Wrong question. If Biden quits Harris should accompany him out the door because the choice of a known dotard isn't worth shit. The question should be what combo of Democrats excluding her should be come the new ticket? Everybody knows Harris is a loser and can't win because she's attached to Biden at the hip. Right now and as long as Biden hasn't thrown in the towel he's a piece of shit but the moment he quits of course he will suddenly be praised as Democrat's greatest president, a Knight in White Armor with a decades long record of achievements. Mr. Superman! Harris can retire as a notation in the history books,

Dems absolutely cannot pass over Kamala. That would be the worst decision they can make right now. For better or for worse, it is Biden or Kamala unless they both voluntarily drop out.
