So I just found out the company I work for wants to schedule a cable install(redoing sales floor cubicles) 4th of July weekend which means me being the IT guy has to come in not only on a Sunday but its 4th of July. Of course I had that Thursday and Friday off because family is in town and we rented a beach house for a week. My boss is like just drive back from the beach house on Sunday hook up all the sales PC's about 30 then head back for the weekend. Does this sound unreasonable to anyone else lol?

working on independence day? sounds about as ironic as not working on labor day.

but not unreasonable. there are lots of people that get called in on holidays.

True but this cubicle thing can be done this weekend or even next it doesn't matter. The cabling job is 8K and now they are hiking it up obviously because its a holiday weekend. I'm just saying if the entire office had to come in, there would be a uprising lol. This isn't disaster recovery or anything I mean they are literally scheduling just for that day which is mind boggling to me.

Personally I think that's BS you have to work on the 4th OP.
Just goes to show you how much your company appreciates you

lol, welcome to the wonderful world of IT.

And yeah, pretty crappy. If your boss is a reasonable person you should be able to schedule the workstation section during the week. If not then either work the 4th or start looking?

yup, I'll be getting screwed over.

my work schedule is saturday -> tuesday.

"July 4th" is observed as a holiday that Friday, my normal day off... so not only will I be working on the 4th of July, I'll also not be getting holiday pay for it.

I worked the May 2-4 holiday Monday up here in Canada... I got paid 3X for it though.

I like being hourly.

Do you get holiday pay for this?

My job requires 24/7 coverage at our locations, so people always work the holidays. But we get paid hourly, and with holiday pay on those days. My only problem is when the work schedule conflicts with my running schedule.

They didn't want to pay the extra for holiday jobs to the company who was doing the cabling, so they made it a week before woohooo

I've worked every major holiday at least once, and all the "minor" holidays numerous times.

I like getting paid anywhere from double time to triple time for doing less work than normal...(rarely do you have a full crew, so you usually get less done than you normally would)

I worked for one asshole who tried to get me to work on Labor Day for straight time...then, when I refused, he offered me time & a half. I told him to get fucked...and found a new job before the holiday.
